Beautiful kitchen! I love the cabinet hardware and the grains in the cabinet. What is the wood your cabinets are made of?

I put my music onto an iPod :) You could get a nice little radio w/ a built-in iPod dock for the counter where your boombox is now and you'll be good to go (maybe not the idea you're looking for though... but sure is easy to store a lot of music on it!)

thanks Beagles - I did not even think of an iPod dock (maybe because I don't have an iPod.....) but now that you mention it I have wanted one for a long time. Although I DO sort of worry that if I get one people might expect me to start jogging or something.

I'll just say I can't because my iPod is needed on my counter!

sallysue- I don't jog EVER so I wouldn't worry, lol.

Actually the iPod in my current kitchen is an older model (but still not "old" and it holds 10,000 songs and has a full color screen) that I got for practically nothing b/c the battery doesn't really hold a charge any more... which doesn't matter one bit since it never leaves the dock where it is charged perpetually. B/c I didn't pay anything really for the iPod, I got a Polk radio/iPod dock which was more expensive, but which has digital radio, built-in iPod dock that charges, a timer and a remote and looks great.

Just a thought if you want to make sure to avoid the jogging issue :)

I forgot to say thanks for the nice words about my new kitchen and also that the cabinets are hickory and I love them. We have so many woods in our house I was thinking about white, but then figured, what the heck? I live in an all wood house because I like it!

Ah- hickory. That explains the lovely wood grains! I wanted hickory floors but DF nixed that idea :(

I just posted this on another thread; I had this idea for cell phone charger cords, but I think it might work for music too, esp something small like an ipod. Find a pretty cardboard hat/band box, or other similar container.. Punch a hole in one side of it. Fish the cords through the hole, plug in and put box in front of outlet. Put music (or chargers) inside. Lid on, cute box, lid off, access to everything.

I really like the pine with the hickory. I can't tell a lot about your counter top (the shadows on it) but can see hints of a burnished color on it. It looks beautiful with the woods.

I'm not an ipod person either. don't think I'd know how to work one. I have enough trouble these days with a computer and the tv remote.

you could put a shelf under your cabinet and put your boombox up there. It wouldn't be on counter and possibly damaged by water or other cooking gook. hopefully.

We got a Bose radio with CD changer for credit card points as they are $$$$. It also can have an iPod dock. Fantastic sound with little remote control.

We have an undercab tv/radio/dvd&CD unit. Screen folds upward. radio runs without screen folded down. Couldn't find one locally; had to order online.

Beautiful kitchen. Love your faucet--what is it? As far as music goes, I love my Logitech portable speaker for my ipod. You can plug it in or use batteries. It will charge ipod when plugged in. Good sound for a lot less than the Bose. I do love my Bose radios, though. If you like to listen to one CD at a time, the Bose radio with single CD isn't too bad, plus they also throw in a free ipod docker several times a year. I finally bit the bullet and bought an ipod a year ago. I like to listen to my stuff randomly, sort of a personal greatest hits album!

Definitely get an iPod dock --we have an Altec Lansing speaker -- it's a slim vertical style, although it could be a little smaller for my taste. (But great sound, so it's worth the countertop real estate.)

Also, wanted to tell you that, since your cabinets are almost exactly the same style as the ones I just ordered (just in cherry and with a bead around the edge) your post helped me make the discovery that I CAN'T WAIT to see my cabinets!

Your kitchen is lovely, and I am happy for your delight in discovering just how perfect your counter is. What type/color IS your gorgeous counter, anyway? Is that quartz?
