Snowmen Christmas Swap?

What would everyone think of a snowmen block exchange?

- This would be a block exchange. We would be swapping 12.5 x 12.5 unfinished blocks.

- We would specify a certain color for background- blue for sky and white for snow. Other than that you can use whatever embellishments or colors you want.

- Pieced or applique would be fine. Raw Edges from machine applique would need to be finished.

- I was thinking we could swap in sets of five if we have a low number of swappers. That way we would be able to have some variety.

- We could have a due date of September or October so we could get these done for Christmas.

What do you think?

hello I'm soo happy that s many people have gotten their stockings and are happy with them. I looked up those that have nt gotten theirs yet threeshyacres - your is in Phil. being prossesed prob deliver today neonposey - your was checked in the King NC PO so it should also be delivered today astilbezilla - they tried to deliver on the 30th but did not leave it, if it is not picked up soon they will send it back to me and I can't afford to ship it again. I just love the gifts I kept, rainbow hummingbird spinner, doggie stocking(Timmy insisted, he loves animals), grow your own christmas tree kit,some nice smalling candles and so on. I also got some great seeds from all those sent in, I think I sent almost everyone at least one packet of milkweed, please find a place to plant some, to keep it from spreading just deadhead. it is so wonderfull to watch the little caterpillars munch away and grow, timmy and I raised and relesed over 50 monarchs this year and 40 blackswallow tails, and a hand full of of other butterflies. it is very gratifing to help the little "fairies" I enjoy watching so much. sorry got a little caried away ther. have a very merry christmas everyone michelle

I had a great day today getting caught up on a few things that were stressing me out. I am beginning to relax. We are putting up two Christmas trees this year. The first one is up and in the computer room at the front of the house. It is hard to describe without sounding like it is a bit strange. It has white lights and several wooden seashells on it. I bought the shells in a large quantity box at J.C. Penney here when they went out of business many years ago. They must have used them to decorate, not sure. Anyway, the are about 2 inches across. My husband likes to deck the tree with the white lights and shells. I must say it is very striking when lit at night. Our other tree will be live one that we will put up next weekend. That will have multicolor lights and be decked with assorted bulbs and ornaments collected over the last 31 years. No theme, just warmth and memories including many received in garden website swaps. I am anxious to start unpacking each memory to deck on that tree. It is very cold here and we are having flurries tonight. The week ahead looks cold and bitter and the map of the whole country looks pretty miserable. It isn't starting out so great so far. Stay warm everyone and have a great week ahead. Margo

Just perfect Melinda, that apron was meant for you! Couldn't believe I saw you post a pic on FB with that saying and here I had sent the package with that apron. Telepathy or something!!!! The jam I will send to you as an email once I jot it down. This was my first year making it, and it won't be my last. It's been a real winner. I have an insane collection of Santa's. He's the tallest one I have. My granddaughter sometimes calls him her pretend grandpop! I thought he was a beauty when I first laid eyes on him, and lo and behold, after Christmas one year, he was marked down by 50%, so I treated myself. Still more than I would have normally wanted to put out, but I think at that time, I had a bunch of money!!!!! He's a little over 5' tall. Shirley, why not take a different month? And I'll light a fire under Carol's butt....she's just coming back from her grandson's wedding, so it takes her a little time to get back in to the groove. I fell like I have been doing laundry all weekend...two loads to go for the wash and then i'm done for a few weeks or more. Got all the new Christmas clothes down for everyone, and everybody gets new sheets and stuff, aside from the regular dirty stuff, and i'm pooped. kitchen is clean, dog is bathed, i'm halfway there with my contribution for new years. this coming week i'll tackle my granddaughter's room...best to do that when she's at school. then it's time for the basement which I dread, but it needs to be organized, once again Well, hope everyone has a great New year celebration. We are heading up the mountains, probably the last time until the spring. Jeanne, you have soooo many CUTE, delightful, adorable Christmas 'folk'! I'm not too sure how much help those elves were tho...aren't they like cats, mischief makers?! The red sleigh is a super find. Your reading Snowman is a favorite of mine! And I love the JOY letters your DD scrapbooked for you. (I made some JOY letters several years ago, copied idea from a crafter! I maybe interested too, but I don't think you should set a specific size. I think you should let it be any size block and then let us fill in the different size blocks with snowflakes or snowballs or something of the nature. I asked for winter blocks one year for my birthday blocks and I got some great things and they are so cool because they are all different shapes.

Hello! I collect snowmen-so I may be interested. Does anyone have examples or patterns for regular pieced snowmen? I don't applique or paper piece yet (hopefully someday). Anyway, I want to make sure I can make something before I commit to this swap. I LOVE snowmen!!! I'll look this weekend when I have more time too. Thanks- JudyLee

Hi Jen - IÂm thinking about it too. I was wondering what you mean when you say appliquÃ© raw edges need to be finished? Do you mean like button hole or satin stitch? Thanks!

Nina,

Buttonhole or satin stitching applies to the raw edges on FUSED applique pieces. Needs to be done to finish off the raw edges.

I have a lots of things in progress but this sounds like fun, especially if we can add snowflakes and I have loads of Christmas fabric looking for a home. Twelve blocks is a major commitment and I think the major factor would be what is the time frame?
