average cost to heat inground pool in northeast?
Comments (1)Large pool, no solar blanket, go to the 400K. The monthly cost will be the same. It takes 1 BTU to heat 1 pound of water one degree in a minute. One Therm is 100K BTUs. The heater will use 4 therms/hour or about 387 cu. ft. per hour. Solar fish gunk filters up. Any wind or rain will break it's surface tension and evaporation will occur. The use of solar rings or a solar blanket is encouraged. Scott...See MoreApproximate cost of average size inground pool & hot tub?
Comments (3)Best advice is sitting down and figuring out exactly what you want. Size, shape, features, finish, equipment and so on. Draw out what you want(pool shape) and then let several different pool builders bid it. Even hand them your requirements so they all bidding apples to apples. Even go as far as asking them to see pools being built by their company in different stages. So you can see quality of the work being done. Todd...See MoreHow long do you spend on pool maintenance?
Comments (3)I spend about an hour to an hour and a half on my 18x39 per week. I am not using a pool sweep. If I did, I would expect it to be cut to about 15 minutes. Pool care is fairly simple and straight forward. The general rules are test and balance the water once a week, add tabs if they are used, shock after heavy loads like parties, clean out the debris, vacuum weekly if don't have a good pool sweep and Don't skip a week. Run the filter during day light hours or your sanitizer levels will drop dangerously. If the pool is winterized, as we do in the North East, openings may require some added work. Sometimes there are some servicing issues that are moderately labor intensive, like a sand change every 5 to 10 years in certain filters, cartridge cleanings, and grid cleanings. Some people are better off hiring a professional to care for their pool. Not all are straight up, just like anything else. When I have a new potential client ask about my skills and references, I may point them here so they can see. Besides giving customer references, seeing the contributions I try to make here, as well as the many other contributors, a prospect gets the point that I have a fair amount of job knowledge, I play it straight and I always will, Scott...See MoreCedar wood pool deck- maintenance, costs, how long last?
Comments (8)I recently had an I ground pool installed and really wanted a wood deck around it for a tropical look. But Ipe was too expensive- even to add as an accent. And other wood options concerned me with splinters and getting hot and maintenance. I went with a white limestone and could not be happier. It does not get hot at all and it is all in full sun in Houston. It was listed as an option under travertine pricing for me. But my friends recently redid their pool decking with a light color travertine and it was hot to me. I was another pool last weekend with flagstone and my feet were on fire. But if I’d had the money I would have loved to use Ipe. Although one pool guy convinced me to not use it by saying the gross bugs who cannot be named would crawl up the cracks. So maybe I wouldn’t! Haha...See Moregypsy_2008
