Pebble sheen and bench tiles?

Does anyone out there have pebble sheen finish and target tiles on the wetdeck/benches? The pebble sheen sales person that was just here says that it is hard to finish around target tiles and that the finish around target tiles can be a little rough. He suggests that we pull some of our targets.

Can anyone tell me if this sounds right. I would prefer to leave the targets, but I don't want a bunch of rough edges. Thanks for any help.

Hi Kim, seems like you are moving right along. I don't have target tiles, but our mini pebble is a bit rough around our inlets. They are in the wall, so it doesn't bother me as I'm not walking on them, but it is obviously rougher to see and touch. Barb

I'm not positive what a target tile is.

But we have "marker tiles" on our steps and benches - essentially the same glass accent tiles we used on our raised wall. No problem at all with the finish around the tiles - they did get scratched a tiny bit - but not noticable unless you are really looking for any damage. We're happy we put the tiles in (and we do have PebbleSheen).

We had Pebble Tec in our last pool, the guys across the street built their pool about 3 years after ours and they had Pebble Sheen (It didn't exist at the time we got our pool done). It was smoother than our Pebble Tec. However, this time around with our new pool we got Stonescape -mini pebbles and honestly, I like it better than the PebbleTec or the Pebble Sheen. Its very close to pebble and does not hurt your feet at all. The pebbles are only a tiny bit bigger than the exposed quartz aggregate. In my opinion, the bigger Pebble Tec pebbles look better but the Stonescape mini pebbles give you almost as good a look with the softness closer to plaster.

I'm in total agreement with you about green! Green = algae = not in my pool! Our plaster guy was really pushing Tahoe Blue, not sure why, although I got a hint from one of the installers that it might be one of the cheaper mixes. Anyhow... After looking at many, many pictures online and talking to people, I found that Tahoe Blue definitely has a bit of green to it. I'm guessing it's named after a lake because natural bodies of water are green-blue because of plants living in them. The ocean only looks pure blue on Sandals Resorts commercials. ;) We were between Midnight Blue and Tropics Blue and ended up using Tropics Blue (Stonescapes mini pebble) and we really like it. I think it's as close to a true medium blue as I've seen in a pool. It's dark enough to capture a little bit of heat but light enough to see the bottom clearly, and it has a really beautiful shimmer when the sun is on it. And we really like how the actual pebbles look where you can see them on the steps and in the spa. It's a really nice mix of colors. Now at some moments it might have a touch of the windex-look you're talking about. Thanks for that, by the way, I was calling it Kool Aid! But overall, it's a really nice, rich, shimmery, medium blue. I suggest that you search online for images of the exact color names you're looking at. Look at many pictures and take in the whole range. Don't just focus on one image you like because there's no guarantee of how exactly it will look in your pool, in your yard, with your sunlight, etc. Good luck!

We just put in a pool....we love it....however the Pebble Sheen color looks VERY uneven...darker and lighter in some spots, less rocks showing on benches..and the unevenness actually makes the pool look dirty on the floor of pool . The pool has cured now for over 30 days so they are saying this is the color....advice, is this normal, you can't tell when pool is on because of the fountains and ripples of water and refections but when pool is off....geeze it looks awful to me. Thoughts? Does acid wash help if so, should we do the acid wash where you drain the pool? Thanks for your time!

We have Pebble SheenÂ® and have tiles near the edges of the entry steps (the second step is a baja shelf type thing). We have a bench in the waterfall cove, but didn't put any tiles on that.

The finish around the tiles on the steps (as with the waterline tile) is absolutely perfect. No rough spots, no gaps.

Not sure where you are located and if your pool is new or a remodel...but in some areas its code to have tile markers to pass your inspection on a NEW pool.

Thanks all. I think we will pull some of the markers (they are every foot right now). I definately want to leave some on the wetdeck as one part of the wetdeck drops off to 6'.

Barb - we are moving along. I need to update my post, just trying to find time. We are pouring the deck tomorrow.

Hi - do you have some tight curves in your target tiles, or are they square? When we were building ours, my PB warned me that depending on the tile, the transition from pebble to tile may not look so good if the curves on the tile are too small for the pebbles to fit into. It is worse with mosaics, for example.

But one thing to keep in mind when putting target tiles on steps - they can be slippery! We have one on our spa step and if you use the tile specifically as a target and step on it, you can slip! Now, when I step into the spa, I make sure to step around the target tile. Just something to keep in mind!
