Do you really need to use a pad under an area rug?
Comments (4)I have never had a problem with the rubber waffle type pads ruining my wood floors. Rubber on vinyl will discolor the flooring. You can buy fabric backed rugs and since it will not be in a traffic area you won't need to worry about it slipping but it will not scratch the floor. If you get one with a rough back I would still use something under it because it will slide when you move the table for your laptop use and then you will end up with scratching the floor eventually....See MoreWhat should I know about rug pads?

Comments (1)Rubber is latex. Latex is rubber. Even 'man made rubber' has the 'wrong things' in it. The problem is the PETROLEUM based 'plasticizers' in the rubber products. What you are looking for is: "Safe for Use with Hardwood Floors". I know vinyl is a bit different than hardwoods, but often times what bothers hardwood will bother vinyl (because the FINISH for vinyl is often the SAME as the finish for hardwoods...fun isn't it?). Go ahead and take your pad BACK to the store where you bought it and ask them if it is safe for use with hardwood AND vinyl. If they cannot guarantee that it is, then you will need to find another pad....See MoreHelp! Need a rug pad that works!
Comments (2)I have faithfully purchased spill barrier carpet padding cut to size (from Amazon or a carpet retailer) and then fitted it with a “sticky” rug pad between the moisture barrier side and the rug. The felt bond side of the carpet pad doesn’t seem to shift vs the wood and the rug and pad don’t shift with the grippy rug gizmo sandwiched between. And no damage to the wood finish....See Morebusybee3
