How many pulls on 36' pan drawers?
Comments (20)Please do not compare a bedroom dresser's hardware to kitchen cabinet hardware...there's no comparison...kitchen hardware is going to be much better. Kitchen drawers will have better quality glides, they will be more stable, they will be able to handle much more weight, etc. I use one hand to open my kitchen drawers all the time...even the ones w/two pulls...there have been no adverse affects on the drawer hardware. I have Blumotion...a very good line of quality hardware. The real issue is what is the quality of your drawer glides? Lower quality will most likely have problems, but high quality will not. Muspic...ask your cabinet maker what manufacturer/brand of drawer glides s/he uses......See More36' Induction Cooktop w/ oven beneath OR a gas range? OR what???
Comments (9)Babs, I share your frustration! I have a Maytag Gemini and use both ovens frequently and also love having the option of using a smaller oven to save energy. I am also planning on a 36" induction cooktop but am having trouble figuring out how to fit double ovens in my smallish kitchen. I wish there was a reasonably priced 36" induction range. (I'm currently drooling over that 36" Diva, but when it says to call for pricing I know that means it's out of my price range.) Here are some of the options I've come up with; maybe one of them will help you. (BTW, I have no idea which one I'm going to use, but I don't think we'll be doing our reno for a couple of years due to finances.) 1) Put in 1 standard built-in oven either under the cooktop or on refrig wall. For second oven, use Breville oven. Problem with this is the Breville can't be built-in and I really don't want it on the counter (I would get the bigger one). If this could be built-in below a counter, I think this would be the perfect economical option. 2) Second oven would be a speed oven of some sort (Electrolux, Miele, Advantium, etc.). This is a significantly more expensive option than #1, but it would be built-in which is a plus. In order to do this one, I would have to move the doorway to my dining room so I could take advantage of about 2 more feet of wall space. If you put your main oven below your cooktop, maybe you could fit a speed oven under the counter somewhere else in your kitchen. #3. Sharp SuperSteam Oven. It can be on counter or built-in. It's a steam, convection, and MW. I was thinking I could put this on a shelf over my counter. I think there may be 36" Induction ranges available in a few years, but that doesn't help anyone doing their reno now. It's hard to work 2 ovens into a small kitchen, but it can be done. It suddenly occurred to me about a month ago that if I moved the doorway to my dining room, I'd get rid of a blind corner and gain about 2 feet of wall space which might, just might, give me enough space to fit stacked double ovens. Good luck, and I hope I've helped!...See MoreHave to choose b/w Bluestar & Thermador 36' ranges this weekend!
Comments (19)I've been using my 36" BS for over 2 months now and I continue to find reasons why I love it. It is most definitely a range built for those who love to cook. The high BTU is excellent and I finally bought my wok 2 weeks back and it's simply amazing on the 22K. But that simmer burner... I have yet to burn rice and it makes warming up small amounts of baby food a breeze, even if I walk away and completely forget about it (which seems to happen quite often with the kids). From what I've read on the appliance forum, there really isn't another simmer burner that works like this. I also must comment about how easy it's been to clean. The cast iron grates are a dream compared to my old porcelain and enamel tops. A few wipes or a dry scrub and they are done. I've yet to use any cleaners aside from a soapy sponge on it. Lastly, my oven does come with 3 (not 2) racks, one of which is a full-extension roll-out. My one complaint is that the oven door and knobs get quite warm to touch, hot even, when the oven is on full blast. This topic has been discussed to death over on the appliance forum, so I won't go into it. I really wanted to get the Bosch 800 plus series, but we had to compromise somewhere. If you can trim 1K somewhere else, this is the package I'd go for. Good luck!...See More36'w or 30'w, help please!
Comments (18)Suska6184, I was concerned about openign and closing these large drawers too. I visited a local showroom that had several banks of 42" and 48" drawers. I spent a whole day cooking and doing normal stuff in these kitchens, and I am sold. They were light and easy to open, all of them had blumotion and they worked so smoothly. It also allowed all the utensils I use to be at easy view level without having to shuffle through a drawer. I tend to be very regimented in the order that I put things. I am a scientist by training and these are similar to drawers that I had in the labs except not as large. Most drawers in my lab used to be 36-39" wide. Also, love the large lab sinks for this reason. I throughly agree on the pull out pantry though. I found the 15" pantry rather small. The 18" pantry was much more useful and seemed to hold more stuff and more sizes. Mackswim, I think you should really consider some small and narrow cabinets next to the hood because of glassware storage. Regarding the drop zone, will there be a wall that boundaries the 24" drawer to the left? If so, I wonder if the liebherr would create a visual stop. Just a thought. I think you can use that 24" cabinet differently. Bringing the fridge to the end of the wall and making the pantries a little larger would be great. Also, you have this great open space next to the fridge and stove. Do you have space in your island for a 6" cabinet to store trays and chopping boards and the like? I don't know where you are located but I spent about a month going to different showrooms to envision myself using many of these systems before I decided on them. My construction process starts in April and we hope to be done in August. Getting all the design and decisions made early are really important to me. A suggestion I say in a magazine has to do with a tilting pull out pantry that would make it easier to see the contents of the pantry. I will have to find a link to that system. Just some more ideas to complicate your decision making:-) Good luck!...See Morewilliamsem
