I bet someone here knows where to find this kitchen thingie...

My husband is in search of the perfect pancake turner (also called a spatula). He's been looking for one for three years that I know of. He says that back in the day, he had a pancake turner with an angle on its front edge (for right handed people) and it was the world's most perfect pancake turner. He wants an old-fashioned pancake turner made of steel, or some other very, very thin metal. He wants one with a very thin leading edge and that angled edge.

I've been on eBay time and time again but I can't find anything close to what he's describing.

Any suggestions?

You might try a kitchen or restaurant supply store.

Yeah, we've been to the kitchen *and* restaurant stores, but to no avail. :( I'm looking for an online place that sells old-fashioned kitchen ware - maybe???

The shepperd hook I have has a straight botton, i.e. needle sharp like, so it's actually very easy to insert the pots from the bottom up. You say yours has double prongs on the end side? How about drilling a hole large enough for the prongs to be able to fit? One word of caution regarding the metal pots idea: depending on where you live and how hot your climate is, you may wish not to do this. In my climate, metal pots left outside in the afternoon sun are a sure way to fry the plant's roots. Even plastic pots have similar problems in Summer. LOL Jan, don't ya love it when you can decorate in your fav theme even if you don't own the house :) I'm checking out links as I sit here. Ok so on the Hippoottoman...it's been discontinued, but may go back into production in may (there seems to be some disagreement between reps on this). It's normal price is $1369 but the sales price currently is 969.99..oh and she recommends a..dang what did she call it....oh shoot I forgot it was funny...some BS term for a damage insurance on the wood. Five year guarantee if I buy the over priced policy.

olychick -- thanks for the kind words. At the end of the day, it's a galley kitchen with two peninsulas. Being "vertically challenged," I find wall cabinets hard to access. I do have one very tall wall cabinet that holds dishes, glassware and some serving pieces. That replaces the wall cabinets for me.

We have a Roomba. I think it is the 530 series. DH got it for me May '07 and we use it pretty frequently. The original side brush that gets into corners and things and sweeps the dirt into the vacuum did not hold up too well. I think within 6 months all the little 'legs' had broken off. I bought replacement brushes. 3/$15 and the newer ones do not break off. I think this is a problem you wouldn't have with a new purchase since they have changed the brush. Have had no problem with the battery. I usually do 3 rooms before it dies down and then re-charge to do the rest of the house. I am at home when I run it, so I can't comment on programming it or having it return to the docking station to recharge. I think it's cool you can program it, I just never have. We have 2 cats and a dog. Roomba does well with the hair and dirt on hard surfaces. It does just okay on carpet. I like to use the lighthouse ray things to block off rooms and keep it contained to one area at a time. It seems to work better on a room that way. It has no problem picking up scattered cat litter, either. I tend to clean it after each room which is emptying the dirt canister and removing the brushes underneath to get the animal hair picked out. I have a pair of tweezers just for this and it takes under 2 min for me. We use that canned air for computers to spray off the filter and I have never needed to replace it. Is it more maintenance than a regular vacuum? I would say yes and no. Yes, you have to clean it/empty it frequently as opposed to a reg vacuum bag that can accumulate more. But no, once you get used to it, I don't think it requires much more because I am saving the time it takes to lug the vacuum room to room. I usually let roomba run while I am doing laundry and watching tv, so I think it saves time and I use it more frquently than I would vacuum. I think it has held up well. I appreciate it when I need to get multiple cleaning chores done in a day and yes, I would buy it again. We have a ranch, so I don't have an upstairs to carry it to. It's not hevay, but I would carry it up & down for a few weeks before buying multiple units. Ours was around $300, I think. You may fall in love with it or you may hate the maintenance of it or don't think it cleans well for you...... so you wouldn't want to have more than one to regret. I know it's not for every person or every situation, but we like ours and my aunt has one in her winter home and her sumer home because she wouldn't live without it. I am sure there are many out there that sit unused because they don't satisfy a need for some. Good Luck. Hope you do like it if you decide to get one!

Go to QVC and check item K14010. Sounds like what you're looking for. It's stainless steel. I've seen it demonstrated. It's very flexible. They offer a set of two.

I have a "pancake turner" that I simply could not cook without...very much like the one you describe. When I realized (a few years ago) that it might be getting too old and I could not find a replacement, I started checking yard/estate sales and now own 3 of them. My original one is my favorite one and I usually take special care of it...it is still the greatest. Funny, how we have attachments to our favorite tools. Nanny

I know that spatula well and would be lost without it. It was in our kitchen growing up. I've been using it since junior high school when I learned to cook. I have others but it's just not the same.

There is one on ebay, the handle would need refinishing.

I think I know exactly what you're talking about. I had one and the handle go over the stove, so needless to say the 4"-5" handle (plastic) soon became about 2". I still used it for a while.

Not long after I found one at Target that was coated with non-stick. That has become my favorite since it works so nicely with the non-stick cookware. I take special care of it. They don't carry them anymore. Haven't seen them anywhere. Perfect for eggs.

Forgot to add I see them at auctions and garage sales often. Especially at estate sales or estate auctions when it's an older person who died. Kids these days don't know what's good!

the best one i ever had, i used to remove the "popcorn" ceiling stuff in dd's bedroom when she was a child... i loved it and about cried when i broke the handle...now i have one in stainless i bought when a kitchen store was going out of business...
