My niches don't have bullnose edges. I did put a Caesarstone ledge in so that I wouldn't have to clean soap scum off marble.

I think my tile is bullnose at the edges, though.

We used White Thassos marble to line our niches, and for shelves in the niches in two of the bathrooms. Sealed well, they clean up beautifully!

ogoopogo - One of the tile places actually showed me the schluter strips. The only picture I could find online is this one. I'm not crazy about the silver, but I thought it might look better with a matching color. What color is yours?

Pipdog - So, is the cut edge of the inside of the niche covered by the front tile? I'm looking at a brick mosaic similar to the size of your kitchen backsplash, so I'm trying to figure out if that will work as well. It's a frosted glass, so it might look better than tile except I'm not sure about the smaller tiles.

Thanks for posting that! I can't show you our horrible niche. We bought a fixer, and the fixing is exceeding $100,000.00, and the niche is cracked. It's going to be a temporary fix, but the load is heavy elsewhere. First things first!!

The cut edge is covered by the front tile so you don't see any edges. It is a seamless look. Your counters are gorgeous and i can't wait to see what you choose for your backsplash.

DH's first tile job was this shower, including the niches. He got to the point that the cut edges showed and looked terrible, so he bought some pencil tile, cut it to be thinner, and affixed it to the front of the edges. I'm thrilled with how it turned out. He says that it was very hard to cut the pencil tile as it was fragile; perhaps that because it is travertine.

They do make bullnose for the two different field tiles we used in our bathrooms, but either the size or orientation of the bullnose (along the short edge or long edge?) didn't work out with our niche sizes. Also, our tile guy likes to use a single/solid piece of tile to line the niche floor (and top and sides, too if possible).

We used White Thassos tile pieces rather than bullnose to frame out the tub surround in the MB as well, because of the size/shape of the bullnose tile that goes with that field tile.

Thank you, tracie.erin. I've been wondering if I could use the pencil trim if I didn't like the way it looks. Now I have a variety of pictures to show my tile guy!
