White quartz counter; How resistant is it to stains?
Comments (6)Thank you sooo much for your advice!! I'm committed to this stone so passing was more for peace of mind than my decision. I was going to use soft scrub right away but kept pushing it off 'next thing I do after this' over and over - when I finally did it the soft scrub product I used only faded it a little - Really upsetting! Then I saw the soft scrub gel on the shelf and decided to let it soak a little before scrubbing - when I went back to it the gel had completely dissolved it -, NO SCRUBBING, no etching, and most important NO WORK!!! YAY! My quartz passed the Sharpie test!!!!!! Thanks Joanne for your tips, they worked - I should know this, but I don't remember the exact composite of my counter - I have for gotten by now - I'll ask again - but that's irrelevant as it works, it really works!!! Nika, while the sharpie test is extreme I use them all the time and though the house rule is no sharpies for kids, the 3 ft tall picture of a man drawn by my 2 yr old at the side door is evidence that rules w/ 2 yr olds aren't always golden! Mr. clean sponge isn't all that strong compared to a sharpie- hmm maybe I should try the soft scrub? 5 months for a remodel, that's nothing, I have you beat by lots!Way to long to admit in print Rachel...See MoreStaining and0 scratching of white quartz countertops?
Comments (4)Oh dear! Was the crack from placing a hot pot on it? When they patch these counters is the patch a solid color, or do they have the same aggregate as the original they mix with clear epoxy, and do the patch with that? I would have had them do it over. I prefer the chunky ones, but I'm using a calacatta 2 X 4 brick backsplash, and I'm don't think I like the larger speckles of the Caesarstone Nougat color with it. The other problem is with clear pieces in the white base, as if you get a clear piece on an edge it looks like a chip. The edges look a little ragged with the clear chips there, and you can't avoid them. Sara Richadson, the designer from Design Inc., has the Nougat in her kitchen with a carrera backplash. She used some mini brick in her design to try and tie in the speckles but I'm not sure I like them together. The Eggshell works better with my tile. I was going to use black granite, but it just seems so heavy and dark in a small, windowless apartment kitchen. The white is so clean and fresh looking and opens the space, especially with the cream cabinets and marble splash. Going to do a deeper brown gray limestone floor with it....See Morewhite quartz countertops....turmeric staining.
Comments (418)Fsal, that poultice works pretty good for oil stains. I tried it a few years ago on my carrara (before it was properly sealed). made the paste and covered it with a moistened paper towel, and then the plastic wrap. left it for a day or two. it does draw up the oil. you may have to repeat. They also sell these poultices ready-made (search "marble poultice") for stains. ILoveMod quartz is man-made. quartzite is natural. (quartzite is made of natural quartz but it's called quartzite). as for the resin, cheaper quality quartz may use a cheaper resin/materials. The most common yellow stains on any quartz brand countertop are the following; 1) General yellowing to the entire quartz surface due to build up of salts & surfactants 2) Around under mounted sinks - due to salts & surfactants in dish soaps. High pH 3) high use & cleaned area. 4) Under coffee machines 5) under pot plants on the quartz countertop 6) under dish mats or drying mats near the sink 7) under fish tanks. All of the above allow the salts & surfactants to form and generate the quartz countertops causing the yellow or light brown staining. As you will notice that UV light does not generate dish mats, under fish tanks and also pot plants. Whilst UV light can accelerate the yellow staining to white quartz countertops. IT IS NOT THE CAUSE! (they even mention high humidity and relation to salt water as contributing!) Comments (6)Rita, I'm blushing!!!! I love my kitchen, too! Rita and I are the resident "fanboys" for Glacier White Corian. It really is pretty much bullet-proof, and it LASTS!!! My kitchen counters were first installed in early 1985!!! I re-used them (and added a 5' ft new counter) 3 years ago. One cannot do this with just about any other material. It's a great value and a very high quality product. Don't allow any Big Box store employee or other idiot to tell you it's "low-end". It's NOT! In fact, it is used extensively in multi-million dollar, architect-designed custom houses in the UK and Europe....See Morekevdp4
