The guy who built our kitchen cabs also makes racks for a liquor store chain. He suggested that we do as the wine stores do--just make a vertical divider without horizontal parts. Two feet wide by 7.5 inches high gives us storage for 10 bottles. The rest of our wine goes into cold area in cellar.

Are you sure you want your wine next to the refrigerator? I'd suggest swapping the pantry cab and the wine cab--you don't want to heat up the wine.

Can you make a broom/mop/cleaning supplies rollout there?

What about a 8" vertical pullout broom rack with a 8" vertical wine rack above it? Then expand the pantry to be double doors and 30" wide. The point about the wine by the heat and vibration of the fridge is a valid one, we nixed our original idea of doing a horizontal one over the fridge for those reasons.

I originally planned for the broom cabinet to be a pullout and against the wall - farthest from the fridge. In order to cut some costs, I changed it to a regular cabinet instead of a pullout. Because of the location, reaching into the cabinet, will be much easier if it isn't all the way against the wall, so then i swapped locations. I can swap it back though.

The pantry is a pullout also, either two tall narrow ones like this, or two short wider ones stacked on top of each other.

I have a custom cabinet with two doors and a space in the middle that has wire wine racks. Three of the wine racks fit in the space, which in my case is 14". I think though there are enough gaps at the edge of the racks and between the rack that they could fit into a 13" space.

Three thoughts.

(1) I don't know if this works without mocking it up, but you might try using an "x" grid in the space...I haven't seen a premade x rack that narrow, but I think it would work.

(2) Wine Enthusiast sells modular racks that take up 4" per bottle + 1 3/8 inch extra on the sides...if you did three accross, that would be 13 3/8". That might fit? If not, you could probably make it fit by not using the outside mounting pieces, but rather attaching the racks directly to the cabinet sides.

(3) Vintage View racks are meant usually to disaplay bottles sideways...but you could attach them to the sides instead, if you wanted. That would also give you 3 bottles accross. Alternately, you could bring the back forward and use one vintageview at the front, they are 12" wide and come 1, 2 or 3 bottles deep. while I'm at it, do you think that having the broom closet against the wall would require a pullout? (Here's my floor plan and the fridge/pantry wall is across the top of the picture. The pantry pulls out into the empty area, and are accessible from the side. So you'd stand in front of the fridge, pull it out with your right hand, and it would be displayed to your right. Does that make any sense? lol.

The cabinet guy thinks that having a regular broom cabinet, just a tall narrow door and an open space would be no problem all the way against the wall. I'm not sure I agree, and would want a pullout if it wasn't right next to the fridge. What do you all think??

If it's only 13" wide and 24" deep, I'd probably want it to be a pullout. Or at least have a pull-out shelf to put cleaning bottles, etc. on. 13" wide would be just enough, I think to tuck my vacuum cleaner in there, as well as brooms, and I could see being able to access them easily enough. But if you would store anything else in there, it might prove to be a rather dark cavern at the back.

Can you put the broom closet on the left side of the fridge?
If so, it could give you access from the side.

If not, I prefer the look of your option #2.

Our wine rack is over the fridge and has been for almost 3 years. We haven't had any problems with heat affecting the wine (yet) but we do drink it and replenish it. Here's a photo. The center section is two grids that the bottles sit on and the back grid is a little higher so the corks stay wet. The sides are just shelves that hold 6 bottles each.
