Comments (7)junkie - I gave you my learned opinion before you called me uptight. FACTS: They are more complicated than an airswitch They are more expensive They don't fill a need that some other product doesn't already address. Having something different appeals to a lot of people and the F.O. switch qualifies here. People who want what you don't have and want it first usually don't give a hoot about the install or reliability details. They get it and if doesn't work or last they get something else. If you need a bit more sureity in your life , play the percentages and go with the proven product or service. This is what I said to begin with. Oh, what if I want to run my disposal longer than the timer allows for with the F.O. module? It's not variable you know! You'll need another part if you want to retrofit it in an existing hole and I'm sure there have been/will be counter fabricators that mis-drill the hole for the thing because of a mis-communication and the non typical hole size. Anyhooo - at a hundred bucks it's not going to break anyone's wallet so if you like it get it and don't worry if it's better faster sexier or more reliable....See MoreWaste King or Insinkerator? Comments (14)Your experience may be beyond mine. Except for Badgers, I've not personally known any (among self and friends, that would be MANY) to rust out or leak but I have read the stories. I have had experience with ALL versions -- even the tops of the lines -- basically wearing out their grinders to the point where they became worthless. That's what happened to my last top-line ISE after 12 years. It was still technically running fine but the grinding mechanism had become too deficient to live with. It's a machine. Given enough time, something's going to go wrong with it. Put it in the bank. Hopefully, your choice will last as long as you need it to, but that won't be forever. Good news is replacement is neither complicated nor terrifically expensive. From what you've described, I'd go with either of these mid-range models but would probably prefer the "Essential" if the extra bucks weren't a barrier. The top-line model -- the one that I have -- is overkill, IMHO. Can't imagine you'd need more power and the 3-stage grinding thing is a difference you won't notice outside of a testing laboratory....See MoreSwitch from Waste King to Insinkerator to fit drain pipe
Comments (3)It's a relatively simple plumbing job that's done in virtually every kitchen redo that happens. The going rate around here is around $300, with no drywall repair, plus the install of the disposal, which adds another $100. Your area may be more costly as prices are geographically based. Newer sinks are much deeper, and then you add in the depth of the counter to undermount them, plus a disposal, and even with the compact disposals most plumbing systems require that to have enough fall to drain properly. It's really not a big deal to do. BTW, it's the height of all of that above the waste arm that's the most important measurement. And since the height of the waste arm hasn't been mentioned, there is no way to know if changing models will actually satisfy the fall needed or if you would still need to lower the waste arm as is typical....See MoreWaste King disposal - too many models available - need advice
Comments (14)We have a Kitchen Aide 3/4 hp and it has worked extremely well for the past 15 years. This year it is finally having a little trouble but my husband worked on it and said that a tiny bit of rust had caused one of the blades to stick. He unstuck it somehow and it is working fine again. It does seem large under the sink but have never had anything else so I don't really know the difference. I know that it can handle large amounts of waste when I'm making vegetable soup or something like that with a lot of peelings. I can't think of anything I don't like about it. Mine is pretty old though and so I am not sure how they are now. I've been told not to get anything less than 3/4 hp. I would definitely get another KA if ever in the market again. Everything in my kitchen is KA and so that is the only reason I got it to start with, I was ordering appliances when we built the house and just stayed with all one brand. At the time 15 years ago, KA was considered a very good brand. Now there are all sorts of choices out there that I think only makes it more confusing!!!...See Morekrissd
