As promised here are pictures of my 1912 Singer Treadle model 27

It will take some cleaning up. As soon as the belt I ordered comes in I will know what damage the rust has done.

If you can't tell I am really excited!!

I'd be excited, too. That looks like a wonderful machine. Boy does it bring back memories.

That's a beauty, Suellen! Reminds me of my grandmother's Singer treadle only the drawers were different. I have the drawers to her machine.

Oh, very nice Sphinx! You do know that you can interchange the heads in this cabinet, right? I have over a dozen working treadles, a few handcranks and a slew of "orphan" heads and vintage electrics in my collection. I think the count at Christmas time was something like 70. It's DEFINITELY an addiction! I wonder if "Foxy" is someone I know from any of the collector lists?

What you have is an AWESOME model 15 that was NOT made by Singer, but most likely is Japanese. What does it say on the rectangular gold plate under the stitch length adjuster? Or is that just a maintenance or dealer sticker? Singer never put any name on the 15s other than Singer. Unlike other manufacturers, they did not make machines on contract to other dealers or retailers, so with one or two exceptions (the Spartan is the most common) if it doesn't say Singer on the machine, it's not a Singer. Also, a Singer machine would have an oval brass (or more rarely aluminum) badge where your's has that rectangular one. The good news is that the Japanese made really, really excellent sewing machines and I use a Japanese 15 made for Montgomery Wards for my free-motion quilting machine. Nice find! Annie

What a beauty your treadle is. I bought one this fall and it is 105 yrs old and I have it sewing like a charm. You cabinet looks similar or better than mine. Your machine is a different model than mine and it appears to have more than just gold for coloring. If you google "treadle singer machines" you will find lots of info. One site Treadleon has lots about ordering parts and restoration. Annie, one of our members here collects hand powered machines and helps those that are interested in purchases, etc. Do you have a serial number, this helps Annie date your machine or you can do it yourself by looking it up on the net. On the other hand, it's quite easy to take a set of orphan irons and make a top to fit. Here's a picture of me working at a machine mounted in such a top. Notice that we just made the slot overlong to accommodate the treadle belt. I'm also including the link to my webshots albums. It looks like a great find. When I got mine from the family attic it was in pretty bad condition. I read someplace on line that WD40 was useful for cleaning old machines and I tried it. I was pleased with the results.
Just a thought. There is good information on the web if you look. Jayne

Looks pretty good for being nearly 100 years old! I bet none of today's fancy computerized sewing & embroidery machines will still be working in 2108!
