Recommend paint for MBATH that has nearly matte finish.

I am redoing my MB and am getting close to painting. I really want as close to a matte finish as I can get away with that will still be resistant to mildew or mold. Any ideas?

Yes, Benjamin Moore has a new paint called Aura Bath and Spa paint which is their loc VOC, high performance in moist areas. It has a matte sheen. We painted our bathroom in mid December, and so far the paint is performing beautifully. No moisture build up on the walls, not streaks, etc. it's a bit pricey but well worth it if you are looking for a matte, high performing paint.

Thanks for that recommedation. I have a tiny bath to paint this summer, and I'd also like low sheen/no sheen. Since the room is so small, I'm happy to pay the price. But it is a kids' bathroom--anyone know how that paint cleans?

Hi, I didn't read all the above comments, so I may be repeating. we refinished all our floors with the Bona hi traffic extra matte. Bona traffic is only available in matte, but the high traffic is available in extra matte. it is water based so it will not yellow. it is very easy to put down, dries incredibly fast with almost no odor. only downside is that I think it was 3 times the cost of an oil based poly. we have had it for almost two years now and are very happy with it. Amberly- I like the old world sort of vintage look. But I also like to mix in opulance with silks and textures, etc. I was going for an off-white/cream? with a light glaze and possible light distress- I like when the corners look a little worn. Then the island and another short wall will be a darker tone- maybe rustic alder. The floors will be random width (3-5-7) antique walnut. I dont know if I have ever seen a matte finish anywhere, but I think this KD may have hit on why I feel some of the other whites seemed like laminate. It was the shine. But I dont know if I would actually dislike the shine in real life (dont know any white kitchens! Can you imagine!).

Wow. There is some kind of acid cleaner that can be used to clean grout haze, But try some vinegar. wipe it on, let it sit a few minutes and scrub gently...scotch brite pads work well but GENTLY or your glass will scratch if you apply elbow grease. also use a lot of water on the pads. try this a couple times. as to the matte finish-you might like it better after cleaning, but the only thing that comes to mind is epoxy resin. it can be painted on thin thin coats. It can yellow with age, exposure to sunlight, and I dont know what else. and once you do it, you are stuck with it. Any other kind of sealer etc I can think of would be prone to peeling off with cleaning etc and that would look 10 times worse. and is it glass? or is the surface ceramic tile? that changes the game.

BM Regal Select or Aura in Matte Finish

I don't even notice a difference between applying Aura and Regal anymore. They both seem to dry at about the same rate to me. The Regal Select Matte is a fairly bad product in my experience though. It's not nearly as durable as the Aura and you can always see where the cut in lines mesh with the rolled areas. Aura Matte isn't perfect though either. Matte finishes just aren't that great overall if you are looking for a perfect looking paintjob. One thing you do need to do when applying though is let the cut-in areas dry completely before rolling. Don't try to cut in a wall and then roll it...the days of keeping a wet edge are pretty much done.

i second that. i also painted my bathroom with aura bath and spa and am well pleased. no sheen at all though, almost has a fabric feel to it. the mister clean magic sponge works real well if you get a smudge on the wall.

I totally 2nd Aura bath and spa paint. I painted my master bath with that paint in Sherwood Tan over new year's weekend (my idea of fun!). Initially I was disappointed when my BM dealer said that the bath and spa paint only comes in matte finish. But from the time it went on the wall till now, I cant help admire the finish every time I look at it. I did two coats, and it is absolutely beautiful.

I am getting ready to paint my guest bed in Baby Turtle, and will be buying Aura regular in matte for that as well.

My FPE Eurolux Matte is doin' nice in my downstairs bath!

Slight sheen to it...water has no effect on it.

$45/Qt. including freight from Vt. to Fargo, ND

I'd use it again in a heartbeat!

BM Aura Matte scrubs beautifully! I've scrubbed red marks left from the tips of (dry) nail-polished fingernails (not even mine!) and you'd never know where I'd scrubbed.

Another vote for the BM Aura bath paint. It has a gorgeous, soft matte finish, quite lush. I love it.
