I see you have an upgrade for the fusion soft 40K Salt System. It is mineral based with a chlorine dispenser. It is not a salt water chlorine generator. Do you want this ?

You will have a Jandy PDA 8 remote. It would make more sense to me if you have a salt pool to use the Jandy aqua pure control center and a jandy salt chlorine generator which will handle all of your sanitizing needs, assuming you maintain the chemicals properly.

At that point, with the control center I would ditch the standard white lights with covers and maximize the potential of your remote and control center by using LED lights that will let you run a fantastic light show in your pool and spa as well as control your Polaris cleaner and water features, spa etc.

Ask your builder about this stuff, he/she should know.

Personally, I would ditch the ozone. Cannot imagine why you need 3 levels of sanitization? Chlorine, mineral and ozone.

We are going with Pineloch pool Construction. We got quotes from blue haven, laguna and pineloch. Blue havens design was pretty "plain" and cookie cutter, but the cheapest by far. Both Laguna and Pineloch had excellent designs. Part of the attraction to Pineloch was their long time in the business, and the fact that the designer also supervises all the major phases of construction. He stays involved to the end. Big Plus in my mind. Also, we are building on a steep waterfront lot and there are special design and engineering considerations. Pineloch has a lot of experience in that. Once I get back in town, I will start a thread about our build with pic's and spec's.

I did pretty much the same thing as starplex when building my pool. I have friends in the Houston area with salt/flagstone and they have corrosion. Could be coincidence, but I didn't want to take the chance. Because there's no definite proof on the cause, I think some pool builders in the Houston area will only install suggest salt with brick or preformed copings. From what I gathered, complete submersion of flagstone is ok, but the coping is where the problems lie. I elected not to use salt, so to help get the softer water I added Endure. Have been very happy with it. Since I have natural stone coping (travertine), I choose to seal it. Mine needs to be done every year at the start of pool season, but probably could use it every 6-9 months. I just don't think about noticing it in the winter when I'm not in the pool. Regarding pool equipment - I don't think there's too much of a difference. From what I understood the PB use different equipment b/c they have a contract/bulk price break/hook up to do so. When pressed, all the pool builders claimed the customer service representatives/time to come service equipment is better with the brand that they pushed. However, when I interviewed the PB, I asked if they would be willing to install the other...and all said yes. I second the control system part. Don't quite remember why now, but if memory serves me correctly the Jandy controller that I picked out wouldn't service some function in the other brand of equipment correctly. In this day and age, you'd think that they would all be compatible...but ask before hand just to make sure.

Yep kspoolman, I was pretty surprised myself. I did the 5 gallon bucket test to try to figure out my timing, it ended up taking about 14 hours to fill, which was about 3 hours quicker than my math led me to believe. PB came out Wednesday and dumped about 3 gal of muratic in it, dropped some pucks in the skimmer, filled up the rainbow, and cranked her up. Initially, there were a few brown streaks and some splotches in the plaster, but between the brushing and the chemicals, they are fading pretty quickly. I forgot to take pics in the daylight, but I am amazed that the water is as clear as it is already. Its looking really good. Ph is still low (hovering between 6.2-6.8, but I am assuming that is from all the muratic, as I was told we are going to run thru that like water for a while. FC is holding between 2-3. The single LED light turned out to be OK. Not a vegas show, but the front half is lit up by the porch light, and the colors still filters thru the whole pool. I guess since its so narrow down the front leg it bounces back and forth. Personally, I would have like two lights, but its good enough, and I still have $700 to spend on palms :) Definitely on for a swim this weekend. Spray deck scheduled for Wednesday/Thursday, and then we can get our landscaping done. ALMOST DONE! At least we will be able to cool off a bit while working on this dang thang!

You have no idea how many come back calls I've had behind owner/builders and consultants over the years. I usually no bid them but always ask how much they spent so far. 2 or 3, at the most, have said 3 to 4000 less than I'd of built the same pool for. Most are at or near the same as my price was initially. The consultants are almost always washout employees or failed business owners from within the industry, they only attract the less than desirable subcontractors who are typically charging them more than the service is worth. The consultant has no leverage with an already paid sub on a come back call because there are no open invoices to hold back until it's handled. The comeback was usually his fault because he wasn't around while the work was done, but he made sure the sub was payed promptly so he could get his cut. I'd rather go into a project blindfolded and handcuffed than pay a consultant, at least I'd have a reason to let myself off the hook if it went sour because I couldn't see what was happening and was unable to perform any of the work myself. He's the same, unable to do any of the work, and held TOTALLY UNACCOUNTABLE for any aspect of the job. The funny thing is that I've, on many occasions, contemplated selling everything my business owns for cash, closing the doors, canceling my expensive liability insurance, and becoming a cost plus design/pool construction consultant. This is a MAJOR chunk of cash and the biggest improvement to your property second only to the home construction. It's a decision not to be taken lightly. I'm not trying to discourage you, it's just my .02 I'd feel more than reasonably certain that you can find a builder in your area that'll build you a new pool at a price that's good for the both of you. Sounds like this PB might be trying to sell us stuff we don't really need. We just told him we wanted a lagoon style salt water pool. I know nothing about pools, so it is helpful for those of you that do to give us feedback! I so appreciate it!
I will research the upgrade to figure out what that is all about? I just want a salt water pool that is easy to maintain. So, those lights are not color? I definitely want the color lights. Looks like I have some research to do. It is a little overwhelming! Thanks tremendously!

Any other input is so greatly appreciated!

This is our first time building a pool, but I would give Pearland Pools and Backyard Amenities a call. Both have great reputations in the area (I am in LC too), and both are straight shooters and honest. We ended up using Pearland, and couldn't be happier. I have a thread somewhere on here - New Build - League City. Check it out, and you can see what a "work in progress" by Pearland.

This is a Backyard Amenities bid. I have very similar items included in my bid such as the $1450 fushion soft salt system and $700 delzone ec2 system.

What did you end up going with and are you happy with your choice?
