Eleanor Burns Trip around the world, pics

My husbands' daughter came for a visit and saw my Trip Around the World and decided she had to make one. We went to Mary Jos and got the fabric and got it finished before she left (less than a week). Her husband is French so she did it in French Provincial for him. I quilted it on my HQ16 with swirls and loops to go with the swirls in the fabric. She did an awesome job!!

I did take the African tour. Haha I cant believe the guide played along with that, that's pretty funny. Im sure they wait all day to say something like that! The trees your thinking of are Baobab trees and all the info about them are true. At the size they are in Animal Kingdom, they are sometimes up to 1000 years old. They also lose their leaves for much of the year and then for a short period of time make lots of leaves and blooms during the short wet season. The trees could probably survive in Florida (There are some in Fairchild Tropical Garden in Miami which stays green for most of the year since Florida is wet most of the year and then loses it's leaves in the winter when Florida gets very little rain), but they would never get to the size that Disney needs them to be to make it look like Africa so they did some "imagineering" and created the trees with concrete. That whole area was completely flat land before Animal Kingdom, they added truck loads and truck loads of dirt daily for much of the construction time in Animal Kingdom in order to give the landscape enough dynamics to pull off the African look. Thanks for looking everyone! Bananatree94, Thanks for the IDs. You were definitely right on all those bird ID's and possibly the orchid ID too (I'm not sure since I dont know much about orchids!). Apparently Disney does protect their orchids, so they might have been given extra protection, but they were at least 25 feet above the ground, so I dont see how protection would be a very easy thing to accomplish! Someone ID'ed the Jubaea x Butia as a Syaragus x Butia, so it probably is just a very Butia looking Mule palm. Either way, its nice to see some palm hybrids on the property! Lzrddr, I think you might be right about that White Elephant Palm being potted. It does look like there is enough bare room underneath it for it to fit a pot. I did here that White Elephant Palms are somewhat frost tolerant and since the palm in this pic was in deep shade, its possible that it has not seen much of a frost even after last winters low temperature of 28F. Usually Orlando winters are above freezing, but they have not been so lucky with the past 2! Im sure that the Red Sealing Wax palm has to be potted up because even with heat, I dont see how they could survive last years Brutal winter. They can barely handle temperatures in the 40s! Jim, the plants definitely were one of my favorite about Disney! I was happy to see someone else taking pictures of plants so I didn't feel too alone, but plant lovers were definitely the minority! And I could definitely see why you thought the monkey's escaped, lol, the wire definitely looks like a telephone wire! -Alex

I wish I could go to Mary Jo's!!!I have been a couple of times and wish it were nearer, but on the other hand probably it is good that it isn't. Jayne

I also have this pattern, and once you get the hang of it -- it will go rather fast. Out quilt club had Eleanor Burns sister (I forget her name) give a talk and she said that Eleanor could put the top together in one hour... she has made so many of them!! Yeah right! Like I could get that fast!!
I do like the colors you selected -- It came out nicely and the quilting pattern idea was perfect.

Oh, Pat Nagle is who you saw...I saw her too...once in April of last year here in SC and then again in June in Ohio when i went back for the summer. She was awesome, wasn't she?? Did you get to see the Magic Vine Quilt too??
Crystal was sewing while I was pinning and it went fast that way. Oh, I also work full time so we did this after I got home at 3:30 pm.
