I don't usually see the need to swap out a fridge for a CD model. If it sticks out and cuts into a walk way I'd do it if I could financially. I would allow extra inches around it (even if a filler is needed) in case a future fridge is wider. the corners - I agree with rhome on being consistent with whichever type you use. I do think the diagonal corners cut into your space - makes it much more difficult to reach into those corners! The upper diagonals put the cab door smack in your face and give too deep of storage- where things are lost in the back. alternate upper corner cabinet - the pantry - I think it's fine and space like that can always be used. you can use the different doors/shelf areas to separate types of items - like canned goods in one, breakfast and other dry goods in another, 1 for baking supplies, 1 for snack items/juice/soda and /or water bottles. Unless you have a definite need for a counter space closer to the dining area I'd keep it as is. I don't think it's too big. doorways - foyer - I don't see the need for a wider doorway there (am I missing something?). will there be a closet in the foyer? DR/LR doorway - that might be a good idea to check out. make sure your table will fit thru the doorway w/seating also. or you might just set up another table in the LR lined up with the doorway. We did that at my sister's for holidays - there was a large archway between her eating area and her LR so we put another table in her LR running up to the archway so both tables were close together. It was a 'T' arrangement. base cabinets - drawers, drawers and more drawers!! why so few drawers? it looks like it'll be a big, beautiful kitchen with lots of cabinets and counter space! I'd put in more lower drawers tho.

Thx for the feedback..as I said I am new and still learning. I added the dimensional drawings to the photobucket site and tried to label the doors and halls as best I could within the restraints of the picture size. I'm hoping it makes more sense. If not, I can sketch it and try to upload that. My kitchen and this new area connect via a small hallway. I have a set of stairs that is on the back of my run of cabinets in the kitchen. There is a hallway there that is currently the entrance from the garage. That door will be closed off and and a closet added there. The opening in the aerial view of the laundry area leads to the short hallway where the current entrance is.. Good grief...I just re-read that and it hardly makes sense to me! I actually really like this plan! What are you going to use for finishes? Any "special items" planned for your kitchen? Rhome is a great one for adding coffee bars and baking centers, etc. Your range location also opens up the possibility of making that space a real focal point, from the dining room. On the fridge wall, have you thought about a pantry or broom closet on one side of the fridge, with a "landing space" on the other? Maybe a counter with glass doors above, for wine glasses, tea cups, or other special display items, on the dining room side of the fridge? The reason I ask, is that you don't have a space near the fridge to set down juices and other items, without walking over to the sink or stove area. For storage, do you have a larger pantry or laundry area downstairs? Some people like to have everything in the kitchen, but you're working with limited space. If you have an area for additional storage (large items not used very often) that will free up more space for everyday items in the kitchen...and give you room for "special" features, like a display cabinet or a fancy hood over the range :) Where does the single door in the dining room go? Do you have a porch or another room on that side? Just curious... Oh, one other question. Is the hall bath going to be used for the kids' rooms? If so, you might want to replace the walk-in shower with a tub/shower combo. Also, if you don't mind, what are the dimensions on your master bedroom and bath? I am probably overstepping here, but it looks like you have a lot of space at the foot of the bed, and the toilet is kind of centered between the tub and shower. Has your designer provided any drawings of the rooms with a picture of each wall. For instance...how will it look, when you're standing in front of the double sinks? What is your view from the tub? You have some nice space there and I think you could set up something that emphasizes the sinks and tub (your pretty areas) and still leaves plenty of room for the toilet and large shower. Maybe some way that the toilet is not between the tub and the shower. (I've seen that before in a bathroom and it wasn't a great look). Again, sorry if I've moved way beyond the point of your original question :)

Well, I don't know that this works perfectly, but it gets at least somewhat of everything you want. Perhaps that is enough?The family entrance to the home is in the side. Enter there, and you'll pass the 5' x 5' half bath (with a window!) and a closet and hooks on the back of the pantry and/or on the long stairwell wall. Not the most elaborate mudroom or half bath ever, but it's more than you have now. If you would like to trade traffic flow for a bigger closet, you could always close off the entrance to dining/kitchen areas from the mudroom. (If you're carrying groceries, you'd probably enter the house through the deck doors anyway.) Like this: In addition to the half bath and mudroom, this plan also gains you a big kitchen with an island that is not a corridor kitchen. Moreover, though you cannot see the entire living room from the island, you can see the entire dining room and about half of the living room: Note that, though the living room does not change in size, it has a new traffic pattern running into it from the new hallway. This will shift any natural living room furniture layouts to the right. Does that leave you enough room for a decent furniture layout?
