What's the current wisdom on this question? We are redoing the deck this summer and are also facing the choice between the two brands. Two different contractors bidding for the work recommended Timbertech XLM (or "twin"?) One of them said, CorrectDeck "went bancrupt" because of "quality problems", and was aqcuired by Gaf... This is a bit strange, because Consumer Reports still recommends them (they prefer plastic, but CorrectDeck CX got their top score among composite materials). There are also products by "Veranda" (HomeDepot) and "Trexx"... Any opinions on them?

Also, while reviewing previous messages prior to posting mine, someone mentioned that their contractor had specifically said not to use Ornamental Rail, but there was no detail or context given in the message. :-) Are there any specific reasons not to use Ornamental Rail? Would those same reasons apply to the Builder Rail as well, since the composite materials are the same? As a further thought, I was considering using the TT Radiance Rail (PVC coated) as an alternative if the Ornamental/Builder Rail materials fade too much for my liking. Any comments on this logic? Since this post IS so old, I wonder if some who posted early in this string made any decisions, what they went with, and if they are happy with the choices they made. I have builders trying to get me to use EverGrain, another one wants to build with Latitudes. Neither of them want to use composite railing. They are really trying to sell their composite (I'm guessing they have some discounted contract with their dealers), but somehow no one likes composite railing. I was leaning on building using composite (possibly TimberTech, but I haven't found anyone in my area willing to go with TimberTech yet), and I was hoping the deck railing could be complimentary to the material on the deck and actually be made of the same composite material. This seems to be next to impossible for me to accomplish. What am I missing here?

well we just bought 3200 sq ft of timbertech and the radiance railing system in teak and walnut and it cost me 31K. He is going to charge me 9K to install it. This is in TN however but the company is based in ohio. I think we are getting trucking pricing because our job will take a full 18 wheeler and weighs over 21000 lbs.
