Brand new bluestone patio is a mess. What can I do?
Comments (0)Contractor just finished our patio and it looks like crap. We paid them to rip out existing concrete patio, put in new layers underneath and put in a 10'x30' bluestone patio. See images. The grout work is so sloppy, its stained and filthy, the color of the stone is way lighter than it should be and overall it just looks awful in my opinion. These pictures are taken the day after they finished, before any use. The only thing I have done is sweep with a pushbroom (which did very little to help the appearance). What are my options? Can I hire someone to come in and fix? Can it be cleaned or refinished? Can I demand this guy do it over (though do I even want him to)? Thanks for any help!...See Morebest installation method for bluestone patio
Comments (2)We just had a bluestone patio installed and as I understand it the cement has to be in very good shape with excellent drainage to re-use it as a base for bluestone. We put down new concrete under the bluestone. I can’t recall if they had a layer of gravel under that too....See MoreCleaning dried Grout from Bluestone Patio tiles
Comments (10)Update: The contractor said I don't have to do anything it will wash away after a few rains. I didn't quite believe that so I thought I would try the most gentle option first. I mixed up half water/half white vinegar and soaked the stone, waited a few minutes and scrubbed it down vigorously with a stiff nylon brush. I did this 2x and I'm satisfied with the results....See MoreBluestone patio...seal it or not?
Comments (14)We have an unsealed bluestone courtyard on concrete. Part is protected by an overhang, but about half is not. I see no differences between the two areas. My elderly dog routinely urinates on it (before I can grab her and put her elsewhere) and it’s easily hosed off. I treat it with Wet and Forget about once a year and it keeps the algae, etc. from growing. We live in a fairly humid climate and I haven’t had any issues in six years....See More- 18 years ago
