Work in Progress pics + backsplash/counter advice needed

Been a looong time lurker and even looonger time renovator. We have been doing the reno ourselves on weekends and we finally have made (some) progress. However, need some advice on whether to go with misty carrera or pebble cesarstone with the Paris Nights arabesque tile we purchased. Thanks in advance for your help! Oh, cabinets will be white, island will be the same color as the backsplash and we want to keep the same counters for both the perimeter and island cabinetry. Thanks!

Would you post two separate photos, one each of the different countertops with the tile?

I think the tile will "pop" more with the white countertop. It seems like it will be a more subtle look with the grey countertop. What look are you going for?

Beautiful kitchen! Your panels in your upper cabinets give your kitchen a traditional look so I would stay away from anything that looks too modern or too busy. I have AZ Tile Tumbled Camargo (travertine) 2x4 with antique linen grout and light almond outlet covers. The Camargo has some subtle color variations in it and it not as "holey" as other tumbled stone. It has some nice beige tones that would complement your floor and cabinets. At the same time it has some nice gray tones that would complement your granite. Good luck with your decision!

Dear Denise, Beautiful! The black cosmic granite is gorgeous and works very well with your new backsplash, subltle detail in backsplash, and existing cabinets. I also love the swirl in your granite. I searched for many black granites and didn't see a cosmic that pretty. It all sets the stage so well for your great Bluestar. Bravo!

This is one of those "for the want of a nail, the kingdom was lost" type of situations. The real issue here is the whole home's levelness, not the floors, not the cabinets, not the countertops, not the backsplash. Put your level on your floor and see if it all goes downhill as well. I'm sure it does, but the question is how much out of level is it? That's when you need to crawl under the home and figure out WHY everything isn't level. If it's "just" settling, and the home is done settling, then you can begin to address everything that has been affected by this condition. If your foundation is subsiding, or a beam has broken, you need to have that addressed immediately. Once you diagnose the reason for the whole issue, only then can you attempt to start at the beginning and fix what's wrong here. You may need to jack up your floor support. You may need to remove the cabinets and shim from the bottom. It may be OK to just remove the counters and create long thin shims for the top. But you have to know what the disease is before you can diagnose the cure. And yes, this will also affect your uppers if they are not level. You need to know that, as well as if your ceiling is level. Everything needs to be looked at with your level before you crawl under the house.

I LOVE your counters - I considered a Blue Australe which seems similar to laboradite, but it was almost twice the price, at the time, of what I ended up choosing, Volga Blue. (very hard capturing either of these stones in a picture, isn't it) So I understand your challenge, I spent a long time puzzled over a backsplash for my counters. I went with the Seneca Tile company's Blue Lagoon from the Studio line. My counter reads black and hints of silver at first glance, the blue inclusions are subtle until you are trying to look for them, so it doesn't read too busy in real life. In the same line, they have a gorgeous variegated green called Waterlily, it might work in your kitchen Seneca waterlily- here's some more inspiration, some of these blue/ green mixes that may work- from http://senecatiles.com/senecablends-gallery/nggallery/page/1 Here's a work in progress shot of our Blue Lagoon backsplash going up- I have no regrets going bold and colorful, I feel happy every time I look at it

The gray or one shade lighter in gray is preferable. There is a lot of white going on-the grayish or a darker smokey white works. Either one you pick will actually work as they are neutral and ..[ceiling is unique and the strongest feature anyway]

I vote pebble. It add some nice contrast without being heavy. I included a couple pictures from houzz with pebble counters.

looking good!! The pebble is really standing out to me. i really like it. You really can't go wrong with the misty. beautiful tile.

Definitely white for me. Someone doesn't buy a tile like that for it to blend in, and the white will make it pop!

I do like the grey and navy, but maybe not so close together. If you were doing grey lower cabs, I think that'd look great with white counter/navy backsplash. But I like the white counter against the navy tiles, even with white cabs. Happy renovating!
