TimberTech's TwinFinish Plank

Has anyone used TimberTech's TwinFinish Plank? If you have, what can you tell me about this product? Also, did you use it for a deck or a covered porch?

TT 5/4 is the best bet in a 5/4 composite game that has a large dealer advantage. The TT Earth wood panks have worked well for me, we frame for them on 12'' centers and it matters little if its a cover porch or a deck Rose.TT T&G is also a good bet.

Exposure to the weather exchange is the same dont think that little over hang is going to make any differance. Provide cross vintalation,use stainless steal screws, and hope for the best. John

John, Did you know that TimberTech's TwinFinish Plank has the same actual dimensions as TT's 5/4 Plank? (1" x 5-7/16)

You mentioned that we should use stainless steel screws. When I went to a building center, the clerk showed me composite deck screws called Trapease screws, which are colored. Do you know anything about these screws?

One more thing...since composites contain wood, would you recommend using a sealer after the TT planks are installed?

Ok, one last thing...I'd love to purchase Ipe but won't simply because my DH will want to install it "his way" without ever having read one single thing about Ipe. I've spent many hours pouring over info posted here about Ipe and have learned...you'd better know how to store and install it before it arrives at your door.

We actually decided to go with Tigerwood. We got three bids, one for TT Earthwood w/their Radiance Rail, one for 5/4*6 TGW w/ the Radiance Rail, and one for 1*6 TGW w/ the radiance rail. The TT was a couple thousand more than the 1*6. And the rail was over 1/3 the cost. We've decided Tigerwood b/c of cost and b/c the contractor thinks it's tougher and will do better with our dogs. TT is less maintenance, but the maintenance on TGW still seems minimal other than the parefin (SP?) sealing it needs. Plus, we just like wood better, so the cost consideration definitely pushed us toward the tigerwood. As far as the PVC, I was interestd, but it's just sooo fake looking. My husband would have never gone for it.

I've spoken to salesmen at two different lumber yards, they've said if scratching is a big concern go with the Twin plank rather then Earthwood. Apparently with weathering the scratches somewhat blend. My big concern is having to shovel snow off of the steps and deck in the winter without scratching it excessively. Since the Earthwood is new I don't think anyone's gone through a winter with it yet. I'm calling TimberTech on Monday to see what they can tell me. It's not an easy decision because the Earthwood product looks so much nicer than the Twin plank finish! I hate to settle for the Twin plank but tons of scratches will really upset me.

I had replaced an 800 sq foot deck with Trex and Azek as the rails. The contractor had to install extra joists . The local lumber yards sold all material for the same cost. Home Depot carries some of the Trex materials and the hangers. United building supply in eastern Ct sells the products as does the local lumber yards. The contractors get a discount price . When you cut the planks there will be an accumulation of,plastic shavings. I have used the dry vacuum to pick up the debris or I had laid a tarp under the table saw to collect the debris. Contractor thought I was nuts. I hated the shavings blown into my garage and the inground pool. I spent near nine grand in materials for the 800 sq foot deck. This included the joist boards, the railing, the hangers , and other nails. You can use screws instead of the hangers. I have moved recently and replaced three decks and a set of stairs with gossen using screws. The new home did not need the hangers since we do not sit on the decks but are just stepping areas into the home. Be careful screwing near edges of the boards or they will split.

TimberTech Tropical Teak Fading?

Hi Folks, I'm in the process of building a deck (see progress at http://houseintoahome.blogspot.com/) and am planning to use TimberTech's Tropical Teak planking. Has anyone had this decking installed for more than a year? I expect some degree of fading, but am wondering if the black highlights will fade to the same degree as the rest of the plank. I don't want a light colored plank with black streaks that didn't fade. Thanks! Ken

Use stainless steal screws, most of the composite guys agree the fastener should go into the frame at least half the width of the decking.

With soft composites like Choice it is very possible to use twp 116 with good results. TimberTech material is a lot harder than most for this reason and a few others I dont recomend trying to put a finish on TT.
