fleece & sick children

User

Hi: I am a member of Linus Connection which is an Austin, TX group that makes blankets and quilts for sick children and children in crisis. For the past few years, some people have turned in quilts made of fleece - especially non-sewers.

One hospital that we serve, Dell Childrens Hospital, has requested that we no longer bring them any fleece blankets. It seems that several doctors found that they could not get an accurate temperature reading on the children that were given the fleece blankets.

Other hospitals still accept the fleece, but I thought that the Moms and Grammas out there would like to know about this. Since I personally don't care to sew on fleece, I haven't made any for my children or grandchildren.

I guess all the new stuff is not always better than the old stuff. I'll stick to cotton - it's easier to sew on anyway and I don't get a sewing machine full of lint.

Happy Sewing,

Monicatx
