Sneak peak of backsplash going in!
Comments (44)Ob2b - just missing the window seat cushion - no idea when that will get done! Otherwise we're pretty much done! Of course now the electrical outlets need new screws as the old ones are too short. Arghhhh! We did decide on the bathroom, so now all 3 are more or less finished and just need the odd tweak here and there. I'll post pics of those soon too....See MoreI'm sick about my backsplash
Comments (66)Dream It Can be: i can tell you that I LOVE the cambria for two main reasons. 1) you can never tell its dirty. yes, I shouldn't admit this but I don't always wipe up right away. Everything disappears on this counter. 2) no worries at all. I know granite is sealed and shouldn't stain but I know for sure that this won't. I've been handwashing my dishes and leaving them on a dish towel to dry without any concern. I might not have any problem with granite but I would still worry. I think you'll love it too. Oh and a 3rd reason - everyone who comes in actually thinks it's granite. The Cambria designs took a big leap forward in 2011. On all who posted on fixes for the glass doors - I'm going to investigate some of your suggestions this weekend. I'll let you know how that works out. Lastly, how kind you all are. You were encouraging and supportive before the final pics. never did you say, "OMG what have you done?" Only now that the final product has turned out well (love is in the air) have you admitted that you too were worried! I love it. That's the kind of friends one needs during a kitchen remodel. :)...See MoreSo now I'm afraid of committment (backsplash)
Comments (48)Wow, that looks great together. But why does it work? Both the B/S and counter have a lot of personality. Yet they are neutral in tone. The light/dark contrast between the two gives the combination a lot of punch. Seeing your samples, I thought it might be "too much," but good you trusted your instincts (or you were just in lust with it, sometimes that works, but not always!) Now it looks to me like the variation in the small tiles sort of mimics the variation in the light streaks of the gneiss. There are similar size pieces as well as the color being close. Is that part of what's tying it together? Would love to hear why others think this is working here. It would be easy to be "close, but off" when combining this or a similar stone with a mosaic of any kind. It risks looking like striped pants with a plain shirt, if you know what I mean....See MoreHi! I'm new and I'm confused about backsplash choice!
Comments (4)Hi! Thank you for your replies. I will definitely stay with the diagonal now. ngng: Your kitchen looks so lovely! I want wood cabinets in the next house. Mine were an ugly, grainy, weird oak so I painted them some years ago and don't have it in me to redo them again since we plan to move in a couple of years. remodelfla: My floor plan is not an open one. The kitchen/breakfast area is separate from the family room. However, I like way the bronze Fleur de lis picks up the bronze looking flecks in the granite. I thought about smaller squares of the granite used as an accent but wanted something a little different. It's so hard to only do a bit of updating! I start to get carried away as so much needs to be done, but I really don't want to invest anything (time or money) since we aren't staying here. But it's so outdated and yucky!! We rented this house before we bought it 15 years ago and only bought because I was having a baby when the owners put it up for sale and didn't want to face a move after only just moving in a year prior! I never really liked the layout of the kitchen or the floor plan of the house! And here I am 15 years later! Time flies! Thanks for your suggestions! It has helped me!...See Morenosoccermom
