Anchor seal go forward or go back

Well the deck looks great. I used Ipe decking and treads and Azek risers and wrapped the salt posts w/ Azek. I have achieved the look I wanted and I am thrilled w/ the whole project except the post caps. I wanted to cap w/ Ipe and I was going to make my own out of 2x10, beveling the edge all-the-way around but instead I saw that Advantage lumber had done the work for me and I had them in 4 days( party deadline and all).

The caps came w/ anchorseal gooped up on all 4 edges of the cap w/ smudges on the top. Here's my question: Do I send them back or Anchorseal the whole cap? I know if I try to finish the cap w/ Woodzotic or Twp, that which has anchorseal won't accept finsih and it will look splotchy. If I finish the rest of the top of the caps (8 of them)w/ AS,I guess they will repell water but will they grey up? drip anchorseal down the column when the sun hits them? If I make my own w/out Anchorseal ,because they are such small pieces of Ipe,will they check and splitw/ the summer sun? I didn't use Anchorseal on the rest of the deck. Any advice from ya'll would be apriciated.I've gotten this far w/out one of my usual mess-ups (a trademark for me). It would be nice to finish strong.

I'm not sure what you mean about all 4 edges. I have never seen anchor seal applied on anything but the ends.

Definately do not anchor seal the whole cap. You can try sanding the unwanted area's. When we finish our decks with Penofin or ATO, the anchorseal is hardly visable.

Whatever you do, make sure to really seal the caps well with Penofin or whatever other sealer you are using for the decking. We used to custom make Ipe caps out of 2x10, but found that if the customer didn't continually seal them, they would split.

In fact, a major post cap manufacturer no longer makes them because of that reason. All their Ipe caps are topped with metal (copper, stainless steel, etc.)

Best way to learn what type of drive it is--is to tilt it up and look underneath it. If you can't see inside it, then remove some screws, and probably there will be a cover plate that comes off. Then look inside. There may be a belt drive, or disc drive. I am assuming the engine runs. If so, then check for worn belts, (or broken), look for any cables or connectors that may have broken, or slipped off.

lukkiirish - here's a synopsis: tub/shower combo, toilet and sink/vanity will stay in the same place they are now door will become a pocket door with opaque glass that lets light through new tub might be a little wider and deeper if I can move tub spout to side of tub rather than end of tub (for seating at either end of tub) door may have to move over a little to accommodate wider tub door moving over may mean vanity needs to be a little shallower relatively new toilet will be replaced with one that flushes human waste without the aid of a plunger vanity will be replaced with one designed for the space such that doors aren't obstructed from opening by the toilet - and so that laundry chute under the vanity that is current sealed up with contact paper becomes usable with something like a bin type opening - and so that it generally has well designed storage for bathroom use medicine cabinet that's to the side of the vanity will be gone and replaced with some other medicine cabinet type storage other stuff that's just wearing out like faucets, tile/grout, exhaust fan, etc. will be replaced other than that I'm really going to try not to get caught up in too many extravagant, expensive ideas (unlike my kitchen)

I think that is just a locator bracket /shift plate for the control. The wheels will typically roll in opposite directions due to the differential action. Your brake disc looks to be rusted to the shaft from where I sit. This means that it doesn't release itself (or doesn't fully engage) from the inside pad. Inside of that arm are 2 pins that squeeze the outboard pad into the disc into the inboard pad- so the disc is locked. If the pins are stuck and the pads are locking the disc, you won't move. If it was partially sticking before- an increased load may increase the noise of the tranaxel.

If the manufacturer gooped lots of anchorseal on them that tells you they have had problems with them spliting. I've seen lots fancy caps, none seem to hold up well.

Since I wrapped the posts w/azek, I actually left the wrap proud by 1" on top so that I could glue a block onto the back of Ipe cap. The block would drop inside the azek wrap on top of the salt post. I then would attach the cap by shooting a nail into the block through the azek. Thus no fasheners thru the top of the cap (potential weak point).By laminating the cap w/ the block did I stablize the cap or stress the cap.
And why not anchorseal the whole thing since it already has so much on it? Would the AS stabilize it and would the rich color remain if the Anchorseal was renewed?
