I heard recently that HD has something now to paint l*aminate counters - you could check there. if it'll do l*aminate counters, maybe it'll work for l*aminate cabinets?

I recommended to her top quality primer and Porter's oil based enamel, which is called Glyptex, in eggshell.

Do consider going to a real paint store - Porter, Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, etc - for advice and product. Your paint job deserves great paint.

what about calling a couple of auto body shops near your house. Maybe you could take the doors to them and they could spray them. can't imagine it would be too difficult.

someone told me that the way they get that finish on a car(if that's what you're going for) is that they spray about 10 thin coats of paint on the car. I'm not sure you can get the same look by painting at home.

Spring, I remember a kitchen done on the Lynette Jennings show (anyone remember that show) this was years ago but I will never forget how great that kitchen looked even though it was not my style. The owners actually took their cabinets into an auto paint shop and had the cabinets sprayed in a gray/silver look. They then used the money they saved on new cabinets and bought high-end appliances, it turned out incredible. Sorry I canÂt recall what the cabinets originally looked like or what they were made of...although IÂm almost certain it was not metal cabinetry.

hi malhgold, I could take the doors off, but don't want to take the cabinets down, hence wanting someone to come in and paint the cabinets.

Hi jterrilynn, that might be where i saw the cabinets, I just remember thinking it was a spectacular transformation at the time and would have loved it, I couldn't remember where i saw those cabinets, but that would have been about the time I was thinking of redoing my cabinets in my last house and Lynette Jennings was on HGTV at the time, that kitchen was obviously really spectacular because you remember it and i do too - Ha!

Spring, funny I canÂt remember yesterday but I remember Lynette Jennings episodes lol. I wish we still had some good shows like that on HGTV. ItÂs really getting boring watching spoiled 17 yr olds buying older homes in the $450,000 and up range and then watching them walk around turning their nose up at everything. Where are they finding these kids anyway and what do they do for a living?

40 years ago my mom had our (sister and I shared a room) bedroom furniture painted white with auto paint. The paint is still in good shape :) BUT it wasn't laminate. I don't know how it would bond with laminate.

Last year my sister had her 80's bedroom furniture painted dark brown/black with auto paint. The furniture had good bones and I convinced her to ditch the huge mirror/shelves thing that sat on top of the dresser and WOW, that old fashioned oak furniture turned Pottery Barn-ish in just a couple of days and now has a new life.

My friend's kitchen had old 1950's metal cabinets by Youngstown Cabinets. They were rusty and even had some holes in them. They had them repainted at a body shop and they looked brand new! It turned out awesome. I'd call a body shop to see if it would stick to laminate.

If you only need to paint the doors then you can. I'm guessing you will want an epoxy primer for laminate. There are lot of plastic part in cars now so automotive paint suppliers can give good advice.

If you need to paint the cabinets in place then it will get complicated. Many automotive paints are really toxic and highly flammable.
