Ran out to buy some buttons for a baby jacket I have knit and found a great sale on winter robes at WalMart. I promptly bought a pretty blue one for $3. I had bought the same robe in pink two weeks ago on sale for $11. Now I have two new robes. Then I went over to JoAnn's Fabrics for better buttons, and noticed that their cotton flannels were on sale for 60% off. Since I like to sew two different yard square baby prints of flannel together for baby blankets and then crochet a matching edge on them, I bought 4 different prints at less than I would have paid at WalMart and for a much better quality. So I scored today when all I wanted was buttons!

Well, hengal, not to be one who likes to say "I've got a story better than that...." BUT....Today I went to Lowes, NOT TO BUY PLANTS, but I went to the clearance area to look anyway. While I was considering a marked down clematus, someone yelled at me from the front "Anything there for a dime!" I thought she was kidding, even checked with the cashier to be sure the yeller had the authority to say that. She did indeed! I got 13 perrienials for $1.30 including red daylilies, coral bells, 2 clematis, 2 unusual coreopsis, 2 containers of pink fountain grass....other things that I can't remember. AND, as I was paying I heard that same manager telling the staff they had to "get rid of lots of this stuff". I asked if that meant she would be doing other drastic markdowns and she said yes! So as others have said, Never hurts to check it out! Maybe your Lowes is doing the same! Doing the happy dance in west Ky!

Hah, me, too!!! My husband has just learned to roll his eyes at this point. I found a Nules clementine from Duarte Nursery. Been looking for a Nules clementine. Now, if I can just find a California Honey mandarin, I'm set for mandarins. And, I have gotten my Sumo mandarin seed to sprout. I have 3 little sprouts growing. Getting ready to move it into my new greenhouse to get it a little bigger. Then I'll very carefully separate the seedlings, and see if I can get 3 Depokan seedlings to continue growing. Patty S.

Mmm moccasin, I bet it's just gorgeous! If you have any dormers with these windows, I'd love to see some examples. Ours (set of dormer windows) were ripped out to put in one big '70's picture window, making the bungalow a little monocular. Inox: yes, we are both equipped with fitted masks, the expensive kind, from when we were stripping all the interior molding and trim. I'll make sure to get whatever filter cartridges are advised for lead particulate. We'll be using a Festool sander with a Fein HEPA vacuum attached. I'd slog in bare-fisted, of course, but thankfully my guy puts the brakes on fast and is very Howard Hughes in his attention to cleaning detail. My big hurdle will be convincing him that it's OK to paint the exterior sash dark copper-orange to match some of the house trim. We shall see.

Vala, even if you cannot crochet, you can still make a nice blanket. First be sure to wash and put in the dryer the fabric you will use to preshrink it, and then iron it. You sew two squares together and be sure to round the corners--I use a saucer to trace a nice corner. Then sew them together, and trim the seam allowance thinner. Then turn it right side out and blind sew close the hole you left for turning it inside out. Now you can sew on blanket binding tape in cotton or satin OR you can use embroidery floss and do a blanket stitch around the edge. If you want, you can sew one stitch in the body of the blanket with the embroidery floss and cut it off with 1 to 1 1/2 inch tails. Tie a tight double knot, and trim the tails to 3/4 of an inch. Put just a few of these stitches evenly spaced on the blanket, much like you will see done with an old fashioned quilt, but it isn't necessary if you don't want to do it. Voila!
