Show me your Glass tile backsplash..... Please
Comments (11)Unfortunately ours isn't installed yet (a long, sad story that I may yet post today), but I can show you our prototype: From Kitchen Remodel The field tile was our special find. We found it on close-out from the manufacturer Unique Building Concepts at $2/SF. They had a little more than we needed, and we bought it all. The mosaic strip is cut from a 12x12 sheet also from UBC, and is called Nutmeg Versailles. Some of the tile matches the field tile. We couldn't leave well enough alone, though, and the teal 1x1s are added in, as is a copper 2x2 from Landmark Metalworks that will go in each section. The bronze liners are from Dal-Tile Maniscalco (I think that's the brand). We also have some copper quater rounds from Landmark that aren't in the prototype to be used in exposed outside corners. The switchplate that you can see at the lower right of the prototype was handpainted by an artist who has a company here in Denver called Taken for Granite. His specialty is matching granite patterns, but I think he did a great job matching the glass tile, given the difference in materials. We're going to have him do all of our switchplates/outlets. We thought we'd be done this week, but now it's looking like April at the earliest....See MoreShow me Carerra Subway Backsplash
Comments (8)No pics yet as it is still all in the planning/ordering stage. I have hickory cabinets and a darkish gray-green soapstone. The foyer has cararra marble thich went w/ NOTHING in my house, so my thinking was to use cararra in the backsplash to tie it in, but I wanted a little something to POP .I am using Carerra 3x6" honed subway tile for my backsplash. Mid-height In the backsplash I am running about a 6" band of a glass varied length blend (the POP) ...all of my outlets will be in the glass tile area. The material I am using for the 'stripe' is made by Mirage and called a cane blend: http://www.mirageglasstiles.com/product.asp?numPageStartPosition=1&P_ID=833&strPageHistory=cat&strKeywords=&strSearchCriteria=&PT_ID=268 I have ordered extra of the blend to use as an edge in some of the areas that need a little more finish. I had considered a cararra pencil tile, but decided to use some of the very thin strips from the glass to acts as an edge. Here is a link that might be useful: cane blend...See Morecream cabinets w/ white subway tile backsplash?
Comments (5)Here's one thread that might help. There was another one recently in which the OP thought she had gone with the wrong color tile. It was white or off-white cabinets and the same with the tile, but I couldn't find it in a search. Several people posted helpful thoughts. I think, contrary to what peace_rose said, the light will play differently off lower and upper cabinets and above counter even if you have the same color in all 3 places. Your counter and paint colors as well as kinds and location/direction of light sources will make a difference. I personally love subway tile and think it looks great with whatever it's paired with. White Dove and white sound lovely! Here is a link that might be useful: Subway thread...See MorePlease show me your beveled tile crackled backsplash!
