Another project in the works - another UFO is attacked..

Hi Everyone,

I had this flower piece that I machine appliqued a couple of years ago - and was going to turn it into a table runner or a wall hanging - but I thought that I'd get more pleasure out of it if it could be part of a quilt - so I decided yesterday to start choosing some pieces that I thought would go well with it and came up with this for my quilt top..I like the size because it's 50" x 80" so it's not too huge....

Thought I'd share it with all of you and see what you think....after this UFO is complete I think I may have to attack my log cabin quilt....

These are 6" finished blocks, on a rail fence background which is three strips 2" wide finished. You could do a solid single piece background and make any shape of star (or other) you wanted. It is hand applique for the star. It works well for watching TV being small blocks. Homespuns are very soft and easy to stitch. I ironed down the seam allowances and used spray startch so needle turn was easier. Stars don't have to be perfect anyway. It's all straight edges and points can be blunt if that's easiest for you. I have never done a mystery quilt because I like to know the results as well but this one turned out great. Interesting pattern and the fabric choices are perfect. Would like to know more about the rounded corners they look like fun way to go. Very nice. TFS

I really like this, such a conversation piece... and the idea of using circles to quilt it was such a great idea. I need to remember that! Such an interesting quilt, and I bet you are glad it is finished, and wished that it was done sooner!

I agree the light color choices for the center aren't the best for this method, but the quilt still looks good and someone will love it. I've learned, the hard way, not to plan on making a full quilt for the workshop projects. I tend not to like most of the fabric choices and view the workshops as a lesson to learn the technique. Yay for another UFO completed.

Bill, That's really nice. You're brave to use plaids and you did a good job on getting the lines to match up. Plaids and stripes scare me.

Plaids are difficult...the lines are not 100% lined up but they are pretty close and I'm happy with that...the reason I chose this check fabric because for me it just kind of tied it all together - the brown, the ocre and there's a green in the plaid that really matches the leaves...now I just need to get it sandwiched....and see what I'll do for the quilting...machine or hand....the work is yet to come..

That's a lovely piece. My mother loves coneflowers. I think you should machine quilt it, since it's machine appliqued.

Bill, what a great choice of fabrics!! I love the colors and you have done such a great job on the flowers and leaves. I really love the golden color of the border fabric.

Hi everyone,
These are really my favourite colors as well...I love that color gold/ocre color.....a couple of years ago my dining room/kitchen was painting that color - I loved it....and brown...these are colors that I find so relaxing.....I am also looking forward to completing the quilt - but I may have to way to buy the correct back - I am being pulled to a solid or tone-on-tone brown..and I don't have enough on hand....bummer....will have to check out a couple of on-line places - or get back in my sewing room and see what I can come up with as a substiture....

Great job, I love those colors togeather and the plaid is perfect. I think that would make a wonderful back if you had enough. You did a superb job with that plaid. Not many accomplish it as well. Congratulations. Your getting dedicated to you UFO's. Keep up the good work. Jayne

Yep, Salijo, I really need to start working on my sunflower blocks - my UFO's are biting the dust one at a time...I'll have this last one basted this weekend - this will I quilt that one a bit at a time I'll do other projects at the same time - I can't content myself with just one thing at a time - it's all or nothing..
