Has anyone stayed at Atlantis?

I am so excited, we are going Thursday, my nephew's,(that passed away in Oct) wife and daughters are meeting us there. Looking at the website it looks huge. Has anyone been, how was it?

First off, I hope you are ok or going to be ok....That' s a terrible ordeal to deal with....So sorry... Hopefully your trees will bring you much joy once you get the mix down right....Please do share a pic with us of the mix taken from the top of your pots and then a look from the bottom of the top, the bottom of the mix. We'll get this right and it's true, seems like the more we nurture them, the more they bug us...lol Now, I water and walk away to be surprised upon a close inspection once in a while to see all the flowers and fruit that have managed to be thrown my way.. Don't get mr wrong, I DO nurture them once the ball is in my court when they are cooped up in the house left for the pest invaders... Hello Rhizo and Josh! I've had good experience ordering hummingbird plants from Plant Delights although I buy salvias from Colonial Creek Farm. I'm basically in the same geographic zone as you. The small salvias I planted in spring grew robust, three feet tall and three feet wide. I'm trying to have them stay in the ground this winter hoping they will survive under mulch, sheltered by a fence. I do not have unheated space to overwinter. If they don't survive the winter I will try grow lights next year. I sure hope we don't have a harsh winter.

Hi Mike, The larger BOP is the white, which grow to be trees here in Florida. You want the orange,Strelitzia reginae. Just happens to be my favorite flower. Here they're readily available at Home Depot and everywhere else, but I'm guessing you're in southern VT,NH,maybe Maine? I lived in northern NH for several years. While I was there I was getting ready to put up a greenhouse as there were too many things, including BOP, that I wanted to grow that wouldn't do well up there. Even here the BOP blooms only half the year, May - Sept. or Oct. depending on conditions that year. they love the stifling hot, humid summers here and further south. They need this to bloom. So to get one blooming there you'll have to work a little. Maybe indoors with a grow light and a humidity tray of sorts. Or maybe outdoors in the summer only. Just be prepared to bring it inside. I had to dig mine up just before Christmas as we had a cold snap. They say the BOP is tolerant to about freezing but that doesn't mean they like it or will respond well afterward. I bring mine in whenever they say we're going to have a night in the low 40s or less. As far as buying one that will certainly bloom - that's tough. Even w/good stock the conditions have to be right. Here Home Depot sells them w/their blessed 1 year guarantee but I'm sure in zone 5 you'd be hard pressed to find one at H.D Where did you plan to cultivate the BOP, indoors or out?

yes you can swim w/ the dolphins at Discovery Cove, a division of seaworld. i don't know what it costs for out of state residents but FL residents are discounted to $200 a person on many days of the yr. we were suppossed to do that last nov but had to cancel our date :-( dh had an internship interview. i still very much want to go there, they have alot of other things to do also. i think there are places in south FL and the keyes that also have dolphin swins. if that is out you might think about a kayaking tour in the indian river lagoon by cape canaveral, they are fairly cheap. there are often wild dolphins swimming there and usually manatees too. my dh does A Day Away tours sometimes and has seen both swimming in the warmer months. BTW if alex is still looking at colleges we have the 3rd largest in the country here in orlando, University of Central FL ;-))) my dh is graduating this aug w/ his BS in mechanical engineering w/ 2 semesters left to finish his MS. if you are interested in touring let me know, my dh can take you around. it's about 45 min. northeast of disney. ~ liz Here is a link that might be useful: a day away kayaking

My X-DIL & my GD stayed there last week-end--My GD is only 11 & all she said was she had a good time at the pool & the food was good! Darn, she didn't say anything about the rooms--Wish I had more infor for ya-

I hope you'll come back and tell us how YOU like it! I'm going to be at Atlantis in January---but only in Nassau for 18 hours or something on a cruise. I'll bet it's awesome!

I haven't stayed there but we went to the casino one night. Beautiful place.

I went several years ago for a conference. Stayed at the Beach Tower.

Things not to miss...Leap of Faith water slide (you must be very, very brave), but it is very fun. The Lazy River Ride is very relaxing. The Dig is also very cool. Also, be sure to go to the Beach, proper. The water is an amazing shade of blue and there are alot of touristy beach things to rent/do there, including wave runners, para-sailing, etc.

One caveat about the resort...everything is very pricey. Even a kid's "virgin" pina colada was about $15 (and that was 4-5 years ago). Before you get to the resort, you might want to stop and pick up some water/soft drinks and snacks to keep in your room.

I've been there for visits many, many times (on cruises and staying at other hotels).

Do not miss The Dig!! Also, the hotel lobby will take you a very long time to cover. Absolutely beautiful.

You will love the pool area and restaurants, as well as the shops inside and the nearby shopping village just outside of the property.

My boyfriend and his family just stayed there. He personally thought it felt like Vegas in a tropical place, but he just isn't a resort type of person. He had more fun venturing off the resort into the "real" parts of the islands. He said he got a great massage though, and he also had fun swimming with the dolphins.

DH and I stayed there for 5 nights a few years ago.

The resort is awesome. Just beautiful! Very large. You could easily spend a week exploring the resort.

I loved to do the lazy river each morning. I could have spend hours wandering around The Dig (a HUGE aquarium). The ocean is clean and clear.

Bring your money - prices are waaaaay out of line at Atlantis. For example, when we were there a buffet lunch (not dinner)set us back $25 a piece! It's better if you opted for the foodplan.

Take a cab over the small bridge to Nassau. The straw market was nice. Good buys on perfume and liquor.

I would go there again, but would opt for the foodplan.
