I personally (just my opinion) do not like bassett furniture. I think it is cheaply made, and the pieces I've had in the past fell apart... however, it really depends if this is the budget you need to stay in.

I've had excellent luck with the few pieces I've purchased from Bassett. I got an Urban Loft bedroom dresser, armoire and nightstand about 12 years ago and it's held up very well through 4 moves.

For this house, we got the John Elway leather sectional and it's one of our favorite pieces in the whole house. Very comfortable sofa. We got it on sale so the price seemed in line with the quality. However, the Elway stuff when not on sale is a bit overpriced in my opinion since you're paying extra for the name.

I haven't actually purchased there so can't comment on quality, but it seems like they almost always have 20-25% off, so definitely don't buy anything without getting at least that much of a discount. HTH.

We purchased several pieces about 2 years ago. So far so good. We did have some problems with a few of the pieces (special ordered stuff that they put the wrong feet on, etc). It took them sometime to finally get it all fixed, but they did fix it. It was really frustrating at the time, but I would probably order from them again if I needed to.

We purchased a beautiful John Elway Entertainment Center several years ago. When we moved, the movers misplaced some of the shelving parts, and Bassett was very quick to send us, free of charge, some extras. In November, we purchased two loveseats and two bergere chairs for our living room, and are very satisfied with them. There were two women in sales who spent a lot of time with me in choosing fabrics, and both were very professional. Everything, so far, has held up very well.

I inherited a Bassett maple china cabinet from my mom. Perhaps the quality used to be better but it's over 50 years old and other than the dents my mom put on it from her crutches (she was parapalegic) it is as good as new.

I've bought some Bassett pieces in the past and have no complaints.

I have only had the 65" Hanover credenza about a month or so it hasn't fallen apart yet ;) but DH tells me he thinks the middle is sagging a little from the weight or our 46" flat panel TV. I didn't notice it but when he showed me the left door is harder to close with the TV on the credenza I can see a slight sag. This furniture is designed to have a large television on top of it, I don't know why Bassett decided to forgo extra support to accomodate this kind of weight. But it's OK, we can live with it, we rarely need to open that door anyway. I wouldn't compare it to Ethan Allen but it was the only piece I could find that accomodated all of DH's stereo/TV components so in that respect it was perfect for our needs.

Before I ordered it from the San Carlos store I researched the company name online and found some pretty angry customers who complained about inferior quality, especially with the upholstered pieces. Sounds like Bassett's customer service leaves a lot to be desired. That made me nervous but I ordered it anyway and crossed my fingers. I breathed a sigh of relief when it arrived a month later with no defects. Yes, you only have to wait 30 days for delivery (which you will pay $75 for). That beats the usualy 3 months for Ethan Allen...but they deliver for free.

I thought the price was very good and over all I got my money's worth. My salesperson was not a designer but that was OK because I didn't need the assistance of a designer.

I agree with the other poster, don't buy anything unless it's at least 20% off. I got mine for 30% off but that was because of their grand opening. Since then I've received offers for 25% off.

We had a Bassett sectional in our last home's loft. It was a chenille fabric. Kiln-dried hardwood, so I suppose it would last a while. It was over $2,000.

Our only problem was the fiber-fill/foam in the cushions. No support at all and we ended up with backaches. We sent them out to an upholsterer to have new inserts made.
