teacats! You got the price down with some really cool alternatives! Thank you so much. It's just still to pricey! DH will go $400 max.

Unfortunately this chandelier needs to be at least 36" across, and I think I need custom solutions. Staircase is 2 stories plus vaulted, so almost 3 stories. Space is huge! House is Mediterranean in style.

Funny that the Chandelier I love is more cabin/mountain, but this house is on a hilltop with 360 degree views, and has the pines..critters to go with it, but I do NOT want rattlesnakes on my chandelier!!

Any craft sites you know of that would steer me in the right direction DIY?

Perhaps if you checked out Etsy.com -- and checked into some of the metal artisans works -- they may be able to come up with an alternative shade -- or cutouts -- that might work on a chandelier ...

A ceiling fan at the top of a two story staircase is used to either push air down or pull air up. You might figure out why they installed it after you have lived in the house a while.

I wish you could see our new home! Every worker we hire asks, "How did you find this place?" It is a special place, and it deserves the best, but I am going to have to put my creative skills into the deal. DH is not willing to spend, and I understand, so think BIG on this request.

Rustic metal lighting is appropiate, but it must be a HUGE chandelier. That is where artisans come in, and I did check Etsy.

Do you have contacts in Tijuana? Just asking...... :-))

So back to the dream Chandelier. My daughter-in-law was laughing at that thing, and she said, "Ma! Get a chandelier!"

Any Chandelier would have been fine until I saw this one.

So, are you looking for a similar lighted fan, or a chandelier?

My only suggestion is to find a metal fabricator in your area and have them make it for you. If you bought something like I've linked below, then all you would need would be the bottom and top channels that would hold a plastic light cover. The light cover material comes in sheets and you can cut it in whatever shape/size you want. You could cut the row of tree shapes from a thin sheet of tin or aluminum which could be antiqued or flamed.

Fun2BHere, you probably have the only solution. This is not a fan. Just a simple chandelier. Well, not so simple! I think if somebody could fabricate the Drum Shade, I could cut the trees from sheet metal.

But who can fabricate that 36" diameter shade?

The link I gave is to a chandelier. I think any metal fabricator could weld circles of metal to create a framework for the "shade" which I suggested that the translucent part be made from plastic fluorescent light cover material.

I think kswl is right about it also being a fan. Those sure look like fan blades inside.

Desertdance, your chandelier IS a fan...here is the description. That's why it's so expensive. You really may want to wait to decide if you need a fan (albeit a prettier one than is there now) until the height of summer and see if the upstairs is sweltering. A little air movement might be necessary. If you have central air, then probably no worries.

Not sure if this would work on your diy, but you could get 2 of these for around $200 and bend them around your frame. I think snipping these out of metal is not going to be that easy to diy. You can also buy different sized individual trees to fill in the gaps/cover the seams. This pic shows in my preview but won't post...sorry.

I get that you don't want a fan there, but the reason I offered the explanation is that you originally wrote, " Why they had a fan there is beyond my brain!! "

Yes, the fixture you have fallen in love with is also a fan and that is probably part of the cost.

I have to think that a lot of people who might buy houses with similarly rustic fixtures would change them out and that something might be found in resale shops, e-bay, online or other used sources as well as looking for new. I would scour those sources as well as a looking for a way to recreate it.
