How do you change a pool light?

I have a standard in-ground pool and one of my three pool lights went out (2 in the pool and one in the spa). I was thinking of purchasing Hayward ColorLogic LED lights as replacements for my standard lights. Currently, I have two switches on my IntelliChoice panel - one switch controls the pool lights and the other switch controls the spa light.

I have a few questions:

1. Can I replace the lights with water in the pool/spa? If so, how do I do that?

2. Can I synchronize all three lights?

3. Why do they sell the lights with long cords? Won't I just plug them in the existing wiring?

If you have an Intellitouch, what version f s/w is it running?
Are the lights you have Pentair or Hayward? It does matter.

The fixtures are sealed. This includes the wire to it. The long cord is needed to go through the conduit to the deck box. That is the junction to the control panel.

Can they be synced? Yes. It's all in the connections from the controller to the deck boxes. Tie them together and they will sync if they are the same brand fixtures, have the power and control leads tied to their respective lead.

Yes, this can either be very easy or very hard. You never know until you start doing it. After finding the termination of the lamp tail (either the weatherproof switch or the computer relay) disconnect the lamp tail and tie a pull wire or heavy duty twine to it. Pull the lamp tail from the pool until you get the twine in hand, fasten the new lamp tail to the string and pull back to the switch box, then cut, strip, and terminate.

Yes, if you terminate the pool and spa tails to the same switch or relay they will synchronize.

For your and all your other swimmers safety, the termination of the lamps tail is moved away from the pool and at an elevation higher than the level of the pool water.

Although this is something a homeowner may be capable of doing I still suggest calling a pool professional to handle it for you. This is a job that can be either VERY EASY or VERY PROBLEMATIC. Trust me on this.

I'm not quite 5' tall, so MOST ceiling lights are a challenge for me. My thoughts: - Eliminate the problem as much as possible by purchasing those long-life bulbs. - Choose as many wall-sconce type lights as possible. For example, think about your front porch. It's easier for little people like me to reach two sconces placed on either side of the front door . . . rather than reaching a ceiling-mounted light on the porch . . . and the quality of the light is equivalent. - Minimize the lights that are genuinely difficult to change, and use a ladder only when absolutely necessary.

Just moved into our new home and I love the pendant lights but they need cleaning and new bulbs and we cannot figure out how to take off the glass globes. The top just lifts off and the cross piece inside holds it in place. Can anyone help us with how to remove the globes?

is there something different about this can light? Or does it it have a cover/diffuser? Normal can lights you just turn off the light, make sure the bulb isnt hot, then unscrew the bulb and screw in the new one. If you prefer you can turn off the circuit breaker before you start.

I agree with Kelly, hire a professional to do the job or help you. You really need 2 people to do this and one that knows what they are doing. If you want to save on labor costs, you can help, but it may help if you workout regularly. This can be hard work. I hate pool lights of all types- one of the worst parts of my job.

Yes to all. Also Pentair has a LED light now. Intellibrite. Might talk to your controller better, depending on what rev it is.
One other thing. Incandecent lights float. Color lights don't.

One more tip: If you are on the chubby side, you may want to rent a weight belt from your local scuba store. ;>D
