I painted the ceiling of our dining room with a metallic gold glaze. I taped-off the area and prepped it with a coat of white primer and a heavy base coat of canary yellow. After this dried I rolled on 7- 10 coats of the gold glaze. using long continuous strokes with little overlap. (overlaps show). The reason for the numerous coats was to provide a depth of glaze coverage that hide the overlaps and made the ceiling look more "liquid." It came out wonderfully and did not look gaudy in the least. The walls were completed with a mauve/wine colored glaze over bubblegum pink base coat, using a brush stippling method. The trim and ceiling medallion were white and brought separation and balance to the room.

We used Albescent OC40 on all of the trim, doors, and staircase spindles when we built our house 12 years ago. It's a beautiful colour and I think it goes well with our dark oak floors. Now we are starting to go through the house room at a time and repainting using more neutral colours this time. We just finished our bedroom and I used BM Muslin OC12. We think it looks good with the Albescent. It's very similar, just a shade darker. I don't want to paint the whole house Muslin, but I'm having a hard time finding other neutrals that I think will look good with the existing paint trim.

Once I deviated from my preferred Zinsser Bullseye 123 and used Fresh Start. In our family room, tinted to match the top coat color. Not a bad primer, IMO, no issues and it's been 6, 7 years or so. This is where you're going to have to go to a specialty product: Will it cover a light smoke/soot from a ceiling (had minor flare-up on cooktop) We have a rental property that was absolutely trashed by candle soot. Walls, carpet, tile grout, etc. I still can't get the soot out of the vinyl of the newer window frames, just sucked that soot right up. DH tried to scrub the walls with Dirtex or Soilax (standard paint prep cleaners we use). It removes most everything pretty well (including cooking grease) but areas soot was worst all it did was smear it around and it left the wall slick -like wax paper. Doubt any all purpose latex primer would have adhered. Ideally we should have used a shop vac first, then one of those dry sponges for smoke/soot damage. Anyway, we got it cleaned as best we could & on advice of our local paint dealer we ended up sealing walls with BIN. It's shellac based, for fire & smoke damage, etc. Then top coat over that. In a few months it will be 4 years, the paint is holding up just fine everywhere, no issues, looks good. Were it me, I'd probably use the BIN in your entire kitchen just to be safe.

I know what you mean! So many gorgeous colors, so few walls! ;-) I just finished painting my kitchen in BM Warren Acres, a very soft green. This is the second gallon of BM Aura paint that I've gone through now, and I can attest that this stuff is the best paint I've ever used. You didn't ask about the Aura line, but since you're looking at BM I wanted to say that I think you would love it too! There's a richness and clarity to the colors that I haven't found in just any ol' paint. Whatever you choose, please post pics! Sounds like you're on your way to a beautifully-hued home.
