I cannot recall seeing a concrete driveway in our neighborhood. I mostly see asphalt (blacktop) driveways and a handful of paver drive ways. I am starting to see more and more paver driveways though. Some other houses in the neighborhood had a paver driveway recently installed in the last few months. It looks really decorative but that's while it new. I've seen some other houses with paver driveways that are a few years old and some have started bulging, sinking, become overlayed with weeds and also seen them with intricate line of moss as well. It seems either an asphalt or paver driveway would need some kind of maintenance, but I'm going to make the assumption that asphalt is easier to maintain.

The big issue would be "is the concrete done settling" The surface water and water from the roof needs to diverted away from the patio, if not then the problem gets worse. The deterioration is caused by trapped surface water which freezes and expands therefore breaking the brick. I saw just 1 crack in the photos and it looks like a settling crack. The pool and patio looks like it's been there for a good amount of time therefore I would think the compaction was done right and the settling would be done. The space where the plantings are next to the house would be a collection space for surface water to get in under he patio. I believe this is also the space you're planning to install a hard surface which is good. The concrete overlay is a good idea. I suggest looking at an installer with a lot of experience. I'm not familiar with the breathable stone. I will research it if you would share the company and stone name. My thinking is you need a non porous stone that would divert the water.

Techo and Cambridge are (in my opinion) pretty comparable. I don't have any experience w/ Rinox. They're sold here, but we do so few paver jobs that I stick with what I know. The only thing I really don't like about Techo is theirs is a much more muted color palette. We did the plantings for a job where someone else did a Blu60 patio and I think the overall effect was pretty blah.

Pavers are concrete and intended for patio use, not all brick are fired hard enough to withstand being layed as a patio. Being you’re in LA, severe weather is not of concern. Pavers with sand filling the space will drain well. i suspect morter might fail in a tremor. Video shows our paver patio in the midwest built 20 years ago.
