Odd layout of spa coping?
Comments (9)Thanks all, here are a couple clarifications: The odd angle cut in our picture that banana_fanna pointed out is that way because of the single bullnose on the tile - in order to get double bullnose around the spa (inside and out), two tiles are used. At the ends where the spa gives way to the sloped dam wall, it is bullnosed on 3 sides and to do that requires the angle cuts you see there. All that made sense to us. Also, they were not attached at the time of that picture so they are misaligned but that is not permanent. BTW, the tiles start out as 1 sq ft, so they are not huge but not all that small. We looked into precast concrete but it was going to basically stop any work on our pool for 3 weeks while the pieces were made, and the look was a little too refined for the rest of the project. We didn't want alot of grout so we decided against the narrower tiles. just_a_pb, I agree that the one you did had more consistent angles and that is what we found odd on ours. I expect the pieces to visually all point toward the spa center, the the ones on either end do not. Must have something to do with the transition to the spillway but that is still to be sorted out. I will update as we get a little more info. We did pick a grout that is close in color so that should minimize the effect....See Morei hate the grout they used on my flagstone coping....please help!
Comments (25)I've tried for the past few weeks to get used to the awful brown mortar on my flagstone, but I just can't live with the mortar......I've had multiple contractors come out for various things unrelated to the pool and 3 have commented on the "odd", "strange" mortar color without me even mentioning my opinion of it. Very shocking but really why was I surprised. It's kinda nice to finally realize I'm NOT crazy for hating it. It toned down slightly as it cured, but it's still hideous. :( I'm going to start working on a resolution, going to be a pain but I just can't live with this color......infurates me that my PB picked this color for me without asking me what I'd like. I'm sharing all of this in hopes that it will save at least someone from getting slapped with a bad mortar color----I've never seen a pool as far as I can tell that didn't have buff or just regular light gray mortar----so I had no clue to specify especially when all my my PB's pools looked to be to be a buff shade of mortar. All of their gallery pics and the 4 pools of theirs I visited....See MoreHow to cope when you hate your choice........
Comments (11)I hear you! I'm the same way. I felt every decision had to be the perfect one--it's my one shot at this, I'm spending all this $$$. It really ramped up my perfection tendencies. Then I realized that the rest of my adult life I've moved into a place and made it work. Also, most of these decisions have trade-offs. There's no one perfect choice. So with each choice there are pros and cons. I've been trying to focus on the reasons why I picked something. Also, I lack that skill of being able to visualize things (spacial perception?) so it's hard to see how a small sample will look in a large space, 3D. So I'd say to be kind to yourself. You made the best choice you could, for the reasons that were important to you. And since it's a floor, you could always buy a rug. ;) Take care....See MoreNew spa coping cracked after a few days!! Comments (6)Hi Sammie, Are you suggesting a complete re-pour of the spa? Is there any other less intrusive way to repair that? I'm just worried they'll do more harm to the surrounding areas to fix that one spot. It always seems to be something new gets damaged when they "fix" something....See More- 14 years ago
