Best Solid Black For PP

I am looking for a solid rich matte black quality fabric to use for Paper Piecing as the background - the rest of the fabrics will be mostly batiks.

Is Kona the one to use? And is all Kona created equal? I see varying prices online & little description on some.

My local choices are the LQS (very expensive, limited solids) & Joanns (I'm not sure if they carry Kona solids).

I bought a small amt of black from Connecting Threads and I don't care for it - too loosely woven, and thicker then I wanted for this purpose.

Please recommend - (black) shade and hand is important - the background in each piece is significant, and although I want it to look deep black, I want the batiks to be the focus.

Thanks for you opinions.
