I am thinking I was talking about benches that I did completly out of the sun in the shop, for some reason those kind of project have to be set outside for the twp finish to set up. Unless your porch is completly walled/roofed in making it dark inside twp will be fine. J

I am building a 32 x 21 screened porch with a fully shingled roof. I was considering adding two 30x40 skylights. I am now thinking that when the sun is strong in the summer, it will heat up the porch. I live in SC where I get full sun in the am until 3:30 pm. I do not want to sit in the screen room with the sun blasting in from the skylights. This could be pretty hot. On the other hand, will the screened room as well as my adjacent living room be too dark without the skylights? Confused...please help with suggestions on which way to go. Thanks

Thanks for the nice comments guys. This is my first project like this, so it has taken me two full summers to complete everything. The finish work took me forever as it was always a new learning experience. Everything is wrapped in IPE, the walls for the screens are IPE, and the ceiling and soffits are TG Fir. The corner posts are 4x4" steel posts that support the roof structure. The posts mounted on 4 bolts out of the footers so that they could be adjusted in height at the time of construction, and then the space between the steel plate and the footing was filled in with high strength grout.
