What is the best moderately priced appliance in each category
Comments (6)If budget is a major consideration I would look closely at Costco, big box (Home Depot/Lowes, Pacific Sales/Best Buy, AJ Madison), Sears, and local stores for sale and discontinued items. It may take a little more time but it will be worth it. When we bought our refrigerator we spent almost 3 hours at Pacific Sales looking at everything they had on the floor. In the end we went with an LG counter depth that was "on sale" for $1000 off "regular". That was part of the reason we chose it but the main reason was because we felt the shelving and drawers would work well for how we use the fridge and freezer. There are subtle differences in how the interior spaces of fridges and ovens are configured and user interfaces on the electronic controls can vary quite a bit. Those are personal preferences you'll have to consider based on how you use the appliances. There are a lot of horror stories online about appliances but keep in mind people are more inclined to post when they have a problem. Everyone has appliances so even if only a small percentage of buyers are unhappy that's still millions of unhappy people. There were many reviews about our LG fridge model sounding like a jet plane -- which we found to be an exaggeration although it definitely is not noiseless. Be prepared that the life expectancy of appliances these days is 7-10 years and plan accordingly. If it lasts longer -- great, but I wouldn't want to plan my kitchen with the assumption I'll never need to replace an appliance. We buy extended warranties on most appliances these days. Don't use the self cleaning feature on the oven (the high heat seems to easily damage the electronic controller)....See MoreNeed to decide between composite decking And cedar board decking

Comments (6)They do get hot. We installed one a few years ago. You need to be careful dragging chairs and other heavy items because you can crush the ridges used to give the impression of wood. We chose composite because we had a pressure treated deck from the previous owner that had not been maintained. I was sick of the popping nails, the splinters and did not want anything turning gray. And I knew we wouldn't be staining on a regular basis. I love it because I can walk out there barefoot without a worry and it always looks good and I don't have to stain or treat it at all. If it's hot then I wear my gardening shoes. Decide what is important to you and go from there. That will usually make the decision for you....See MoreWhat brand of composite decking is best?
Comments (11)I have done quite a few decks, with differant products. Some good, some I have found out to be crap. Whatever you go with, make sure its a good company, that they have been in the composite business many years so they have already gone through the issues. For the happiest results, stay away from the cheap lines. Every manufacturer has a cheap line so they can get sales at all price points. Personally I would shy away from cheap stuff from China. If you go Trex, do the transcends line. Most of the main competitors carry a good, better, best line. Make sure you are sticking with the higher quality lines when comparing. All composites get hotter than wod in the sun. In hot weather and diect sun, some are unbearable to walk on. I am currently doing a 27x20 deck (my own), and I am using miosture shield-vision line. They have some colours in that line that have what they call cool tech technology. They say it is suposed to be cooler by up to 35%. I do not know about that, but last summer I did my own testing on a bunch of composites (trex transcends included). The moistureshield cool tech was definatley cooler tomthe touch by far, also the infra red thermometer measured it the coolest by far as well. I wrote the results down and even did a very ameturish video (would have to find it). The better composites now are called capstock, that means they are capped (3 or 4 sides) in a heavier pvc style capping whichnis supposed to be better than non capped. Some scratch easier, some fade more. Some resist moisture damage more. Some are much more slippery than others, especially when wet. For me, moisture shield visions line checked the most boxes, and have been around probably the longest or close to it. Apparently they are even approved to be in water and in dirt.....most composites will fold in hat scenario. Bottom line, don't shop by price first. Shop for: Company track record and longevity, quality product (dont get the lower end line) Most importantly install it 100% directly to manufactures instructions (not necessarily to what the store or sales guy says). If there ever is a claim, if it is not installed properly...your basically done. Good luck with your project....See Moresrercrcr
