Curb appeal: 1930s brick bungalow
Comments (14)I agree, not white trim. It's far prettier as it is (and would also be far prettier with a green or mustard) than it would be with white. Just because some neighbors have white trim is no reason to do the same. You're after curb appeal for your house, not matching the neighbors' houses. Also, if you painted it white, you would lose the impact of those very very pretty upper windows on the right. The stiles in the windows stand out because they are much DARKER than the blind behind them. They're very pretty and very "period." You can't leave them dark and paint everything else white, it would look strange. And if you paint everything a light color, you lose the visual impact of the window stiles (unless you put in black blinds, haha, but I'm assuming you're not going to do that). Whatever you do, make sure the window treatment in those windows makes a strong contrast with those stiles, so that they continue to stand out. What jumps out at me as a thing to improve is the porch surface. It's too bright for the house--it looks brand new and generic, which detracts from the bungalow look. The link below is to a random stone supplier whose website happens to show a lot of different outdoor stone surfaces; something like that could really add to the bungalow look, the period look, and thus the curb appeal. I totally agree with Columbusguy on the flowers and the small tree. Depending on your climate, a redbud or a dwarf Japanese maple might be just the ticket. Here is a link that might be useful: Stone surfaces for porch...See Morefinished pics: 1928 bungalow. hope this post works...
Comments (16)In regards to soffit-I have one which I don't really want to bother to take out, yet you know"everyone is removing"-guess not all are heeding the call-did you get 24 or 27 in hi cabs-I see they are dropped down a few inches-or is the backsplash just 15 in with normal 30 in hi cabs?? It looks good and love the angle atop where you cut across to the wall without the soffitt...Strike your path in the way which works for you and your space!!...See MoreThoughts on this kitchen design please!
Comments (63)Again great questions and suggestions! Wish we would have consulted you all earlier in this process! Guests will use the hall bath just off the back porch. That will be an unoccupied space for at least the near future so will stay presentable. This is why we put a exterior door there and part of the reason the hall extists-to give guest access to that bath. We moved the bedrooms, baths, and closets a million times trying to accomplish the following: all beds with good sized closets, jack and Jill bath bt the kids rooms, guest/MIL suite with hall access to bath, close exit to back of house from bedrooms. We are not fans of hall space either but just could not come up with an option that didn't include one and met all the above criteria. Would LOVE to have that sq FT elsewhere as we are pushing our "limit" on size. Benefitting from this thread, we are essentially redesigning the entire plan lol! So keep the ideas coming! Here is the entire plan showing the back porch area as keywest requested:See above post for revised kitchen with open pantry and improved work triangle! So remaining problems/requests/ideas to address: -eliminating banquette possibly which would require reconfiguring mud entry from back porch -better home management area (computer nook/office space) possibly in mud area, not enclosed space just a tad but bigger then what is currently drawn -ensuring island size is appropriate I am sure there is more......See MoreBungalow kitchen reveal - lots of pictures
Comments (80)I'm very pleased with the faucet. The spout is easy to rotate out of the way but stays in place when needed. The controls feel great in my hands. You can easily bump them on if yo have dirty hands and the operate very smoothly. It hides water spots relatively well (it just loses some of its luster until you wipe it down) and is easy to clean. The only thing to be aware of is that the sprayer is not solid metal but that's pretty common from what I understand. We also have one of their faucets in our bathroom and have been pleased with it as well....See Morekpasso
