Problem with wood rail on deck

It is not quite one year since we had our new deck built. The flooring is Trex. The baluster is wood and is topped with a 2x6 wood rail that is painted. It's a fairly long strip of wood so kind of bows. I noticed that the wood rail is splitting all along the center of the rail. Is that something that we have to accept? I feel as if we should call our contractor who built the deck to see what can be done. My husband's attitude is "that's just how it is" but in my opinion it shouldn't be that bad already. Another question... can we use Trex rail to cap the wood baluster? I'm not sure if I'm using the oorrect vocabulary re decking.
