Ikea Dinnerware and/or Flatware Anyone?
Comments (30)Ikea has dinnerware of differing quality. Ikea 365 is feldspar porcelain, we haven't any chips after a dozen or so years. The "line" keeps its name, but shapes change. As its all white, I like to add new designs. I can't ever seem to have enough simple white dishes. It doesn't craze, and doesn't develop greyish staining like stoneware often does. Love it. I also combine it with some of their "Oftast" series. Ikea's version of Corelle, but the Oftast has a nicer look imho. Stockholm is quite a bit more expensive, and is bone china. It has round dishes and square, it's quite elegant. Most of the colorful and some of their white dishes are stoneware. Stoneware easily chips....See MoreBest places to shop for flatware and dinnerware?
Comments (21)Thanks for the wonderful suggestions so far! I had never heard of Home Goods, and it looks like their closest stores are over two hours (in every direction!), but on their website they have a Stylescope quiz to figure out your style. I'm cracking up that they defined me as "New Country with a touch of Farmhouse Glam." Who tipped them off that I'm living in a barn on a horse farm? I'll have to remember to take the quiz again in a couple months when I've moved into and settled down in the house and see if it changes a bit. I'm sure my current space skewed my selections a tad. I did go look in stores yesterday, hitting Macy's, Dillards, Belk, Sears, JCPenny, William Sonoma and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I'm finding a lot of display space is given over to holiday stuff right now and there was very little dinnerware in the stores. Much of the flatware felt very light to me, too light. I think the idea of finding some outlet stores is a good one. Plus surfing the online sites you are all suggesting....See Morehow many sets of flatware?
Comments (25)Oh I know adults that carry around their home silverware to work with their lunch and leave it lying around. One of these is a woman who was at my parents' house when the official kitchen bottle opener was temporarily lost and everyone was looking for it before my dad had a stroke, and she said "This is ridiculous. I am going to Walmart and buying a bottle opener. I am buying Six bottle openers!" I said "Wait a minute. How many bottle openers do you have?" and she said "I don't know, five...ten" and I said "And if we went in your kitchen how many of those would be in the drawer where you could lay your hands on one immediately?" She thought one or two. And then I said "So where are the other three to eight bottle openers? Do you look for the missing ones when you are down to half? Down to two or one? Or when you can't find Any of them. Or do you just get in the car and buy another one?"---"We have One bottle opener that belongs in the kitchen. It goes in the same spot and its the same one that's been in a kitchen somewhere since my parents got married. Who do you think normally knows where a bottle opener is at all times? You, or my parents?". --- If we have guests and are using the sterling silver, guests are not allowed to help clean up. Generally they are diverted from cleaning up anyway. We don't use disposable plates....See MoreYour Everyday Flatware?
Comments (38)I have never seen the flatware with the bees before! Glasses, dishes, linens, but never flatware. Marie_cate, I have a similar amount of the Monet after 12 place settings not being enough of the Nouveau. I started out thinking I would just get some additional place settings for the times we needed them and found 4 pl setting set of the Monet at HomeGoods. When I verified my suspicion that it was a discontinued pattern, I set to work and found more. I think I also have 24 pl setting and I got iced tea spoons, serving pieces, extra teaspoons and even cocktail forks. I knew I had one chance, so I loaded up. LOL Does anyone here have Reed & Barton stainless pattern with a shell at the end of the handle? That was my mom & dad's stainless and my youngest son has it now. I don't know the pattern name....See Morestbonner
