Granite and Backsplash Decision Help
Comments (7)Hi, My first question is what kind of style do you want to go with? Since you mentioned a Mosaic glass backsplash that can be a bit more urban or contemporary. Which would transform your kitchen. A glass subway or another simple shape will be perfect in a small space. I posted your kitchen so that others can chime in to see your kitchen next to some ideas. Santa Cecilia Below is a kitchen with dark cabs, and black appliances. Notice the granite goes with everything even though there is not a lot of black in it. Another image with Black appliances and dark cabs. This granite is Juparana Florence Verde Butterfly is a dark granite but with the white subways it looks great in the space with dark appliances too. A simple backsplash glass subway tile. Not sure the granite in this image. Dark cab, blk appliances and beautiful granite. I do not know the granite here but wanted you to see a med granite with dark appliances and little lighting Notice the next two imgages with counters that are light or dark. Which would you like for yourself? Here is a kitchen with a light counter And here is one with a dark counter. The dark one has undercab lighting. Both the above pictures had glass tiles. Glass tiles are not too expensive and can be found at Lowes or HD. They also update the space without overpowering the room. Lots to think about. I hope I have helped you. Check out the link for some ideas on choosing counters. ~boxer some granites you may encounter that are in a good price range. Comments (9)HI Mustangs! :) I had a full-height granite backsplash in my former home. It was 3cm...only because that's what they carried. If it's the same as your counters, at least it'll come from the same slab(s) and you'll know it matches. A caution...for some reason, my builder insisted the backsplash go in before my appliance garage, because that's what he "normally" does. Due to the unplanned thickness (most people before me had 4" backsplashes and somehow the appliance garage measurements were "standard"), the sides of my garage had to be cut down to fit flush with the front of the upper cabinet. The extra thickness inside the garage reduced the amount of space I had. Of course the shortfall of space meant my perfectly planned/measured, well-thought out toaster oven purchased specifically for that space...would NOT FIT!! Grrrr....I was so mad!!! Lesson learned. Put in appliance garage before backsplash...regardless of what builder "normally" does. Haha!...See MoreFull granite backsplash vs 'something else'...
Comments (42)As a pet sitter/house sitter I see & work in many kitchens. I often find granite walls/backsplashes too heavy looking especially if dark or heavy patterned. Looks impressive but find I tire of it after just a few days. I will be having a mountain shape backsplash done next year...(no time to get it done this week & next 2 weeks am too busy to go over design plans-tis a busy time of year for me work wise.) Since I have an unobstructed view of Mt. Diablo it will be a similar shape & not just one hump- wave looking. Probably will have natural edges since I like the rustic look. Did not want tile on other walls, want to be able to change color scheme. Just hoping the kitchen will be functional this weekend. Electrical still needs final inspection. I am in a gated community so no work allowed on weekends or holidays as well as no work beyond 4:30 PM. Range has not been delivered, was supposed to come in yesterday. Link to snapshots of small kitchen in process, & there is another gallery (sunroom office - link in purple above thumbnails) with the awesome views of Mt. Diablo. Also links to the awesome tile jobs in the 2 bathrooms. Jeff will be the one to do the backsplash...he has awesome design ideas. Comments (7)Hi! I used Verde Butterfly with Adel medium brown cabinets in my old apartment. Here is a link to some pics including one with some doors off (showing a birch interior contrasted with the VB stone). Floor and backsplash are crema marfil tiles.
