Replacing kitchen cabinets & keeping existing corian countertop?

Is it possible to replace all of the cabinets in my kitchen while keeping the existing corian countertop? New countertop is not in the budget and we don't really see the need to replace it since it's only a few years old.

This would be a DIY project (my husband and father have experience in hanging cabinets its just replacing the bottom cabinets while keeping the existing countertop that seems to be the problem).

Basically we were thinking of ordering cabinets from HD and doing the demo and install ourselves.

Any advice? Should this be left to a pro?

We sold our cabinets but kept the Corian and refabricated it into pantry shelves. Our Corian tops came off easily and could certainly have been reused had our base cabinets been the same shape.

Gotcha.

I'm just wondering how you lift the counter off. I wouldn't want the corian to be damaged in the process.

I think the granite looks great: very classic and a big improvement over the tile! I'd definitely look into undercabinet lights. Before, the white counters reflected the ceiling light back up under the cabinets. The dark granite holds onto the light and makes the undercabinet areas a little cave-like. Lighting will make a big difference. I think the previous suggestions are excellent: painting the wall in the kitchen, along with finding some colorful accessories. I had a small galley kitchen similar to this one, and I was amazed at the difference a bright blue rag rug and a few blue dishtowels over the stove handle made.

Replacing sink on existing laminate countertop possible?

A contractor to change a sink!!?? (Falling down laughing) It is sooooo easy. Measure the sink you have - side to side and back to front. That is the size you can get (and yes these things are standard sizes --- with laminate, they probably did a basic 33" sink) (1) Go under the sink and turn off the water - should have shut off valves there and if not turn off the water at the main shutoff in the basement - you should know where the shutoffs are as it is critical to shut off the water if a pipe ever lets go (2) Take pipe wrench or very large pilers and detach the faucet pipes (water lines, sprayer line, faucet) and the drain pipe (3) Unscrew the metal clips holding the sink to the counter (run your fingers around the sink edges underneath - you will find them) (5) Pull the faucet out from on top (6) Give the sink a shove rom below to see how loose it is -if water is dripping down, the adhesive or caulk seal is long gone or never existed (7) Take a 5 in 1 painters tool (wood handle is best) and tap it with a hammer under the edges on top (8) Lift sink out (9) clean where the sink edges where (10) bring in new sink and drop it in hole (11) DO 1 -6 in reverse Takes about 15-20 minutes to get it out and another 15-20 minutes to put it back It takes the most time to get the stuff that lives under the sink out of the sink cabinet We have done several sinks through various houses

repainting cabinets to match granola corian countertops?

I'm adding a photo of the Granola counter color. So you have gray walls, beige floor. One run of counters is whiteish, one is Granola. The top cabinets will be brown/granola and you're wondering about painting the lowers blue. A blue might look sharp with the counters but with all your colors, I wouldn't do a two tone cabinet scheme. A photo would probably help get you more helpful thoughts about the color scheme.

Heatheron40, very nice. I asked a question about doing a tile countertop in our guest cabin recently as I feel like the look would complement the cabin aesthetic. Also I’m dying to learn to tile and thought it would be a fun place to start as it’s not an everyday space and I could take my time. Most of the responses were against. Basically stating the grout would make me crazy. The guy at the said what you’re saying I think, he said that modern grouts are more resistant to staining and such, and also to go with a tinted grout of some sort. I love your use of pattern to give it interest and intention!

Here would be my logic (we DIY) - try it, I would think depending on how they put it down you should be ok, in less they used a heavy glue - and worst case, then you call in a countertop company and see what they say. But, by the time you pay someone to do the install, you can use that money to replace the countertops.

one thing you should know about corian, it is seamed on long runs and if the seams give while removing them you will need a professional to re-glue and finish them. Otherwise sounds like you have a good plan!

this is actually all depending on if we get this house (it's a short sale and we've been waiting to hear if our offer will be accepted). the kitchen isn't in terrible shape but we have a few ideas to make it look more custom - to me it looks like standard builder materials....

not sure if we should just paint the cabinets white or go ahead and have them replaced. stainless steel appliances are a must and we know that we'd like to do a tile backsplash after removing that short corian backsplash(we are pretty sure that it is a seperate piece). i'd love to go ahead and replace the counter top but depending on what else we do in the house it won't be in the budget for awhile :(

we have a lot of ideas for a house that isn't ours yet! LOL
