How to hide all the wires by the desk in kitchen:

The desk in the kitchen will house an Ipod docking station, phone/answering machine, computer, phone chargers, etc. How do I make the wires less messy and less conspicuous? Someone suggested outlets inside a drawer/cabinet and use as a charging station, which is great. But what about the others?

I recently seen these "fabric cord covers" while shopping at Pier 1 last week. I think this is what I'm going to use under my kitchen desk to hide the multitude of cords!

Oh. A picture really is worth a thousand words. I have to admit my first thought was to buy a new desk with cord management stuff built in. My second was along the lines of Pal's answer, but I was thinking of just a sheet of plywood, painted to match the wall, that would fit along the underside of the back of the desk. You could mount all the power strips to the back of the plywood and it would hide most of the cords. They make CPU racks that mount to the underside of the desk. I'd get one for the CPU and one for all the little whatever-they-are's on the floor on the right. Then I'd wrap up all the excess cordage with some of the many different cord wranglers that are out on the market now. I am in awe of the neatness of that desktop.

"Is there a ingenious way to hide the little peice of wire that would show running from the cabinet to my backsplash tile's outlet. The OP is asking about how to hide the feed wire for under cabinet lighting that plugs into a kitchen counter outlet. Permanently installed lighting is NOT allowed to connect to the kitchen counter receptacles.

Hi Julie, Thanks for responding to our issue here. The peninsula will be 38" wide (butcherblock). The rest of the counter will be 25 1/2" with 9" bump out (window will be flush w/counter) behind the sink (granite). Dishwasher under the peninsula counter. Everything else under the counter is cabinetry. The wall will be painted with a waterproof paint. We have an electric strip w/:tv (plug &cable), cablebox (plug &cable), coffee maker (might replace with bodum French press) Thanks!!!

"but I want to avoid limiting the connectivity of the router." That won't be adversely limited by a bookshelf. When I looked at the photos, my first thoughts were either a bookshelf or small side table (routers and cords go in a basket, maybe with a hole cut in the back), or a plant (router and cords hidden by greenery). To me, it looks like you need something on that side of the room anyway.

I made a charging station using a box I bought from Hobby Lobby, a power strip, and my drill. Very easy. There are some gorgeous boxes out there, but I wasn't really sure how it would all look, so went with an inexpensive box for the first time. The only thing that shows is the cord that runs from the box to the outlet. I love that all the rest of the clutter is hidden, and that our phones are in one place, and that they are a bit protected from spills, being knocked off counters, etc.

ctnewbie - I've seen some kitchen desks that have a hinged false back in the knee hole area that is 3-4" out from the wall...all the cords go down a grommet from the desktop to the space between where they're all plugged in....wish I had a picture, but I hope you can understand what I mean.

bestyears - I love how you have all the chargers labeled! I'm always trying to figure out which charger goes to which phone or music player or game device. I even have a labeler...why didn't I think of that?
