River Rok or Sunstone Pearl?
Comments (5)Bump....we also need to decide between River Rok and Sunstone Pearl. We are looking for a richer, darker (but not too dark) blue color. With regard to River Rok, we found that the River Rok Lucayan Blue was a little too light blue for us and we are afraid that River Rok Opal Blue (which is a mixture of 8 to 2 Lucayan Blue to Emerald Black) is a little too black/dark. Anyone build any pools out there with a 9/1 mixture of Lucayan Blue and Emerald Black? Any other suggestions to achieve a rich, dark blue? We just do not want to put in River Rok and have the color come out like we just did plaster (ie, light blue). Any suggestions with regard to Sunstone Pearl? Any help would be appreciated as we have just a few days to make a decision and we have not been able to find many pools around here that was built using River Rok or Sunstone Pearl. Also any pictures would help! Thanks all!...See MoreDiamond Brite and River Rok pictures requested
Comments (11)Well, it's kind of a funny story. We were 100% set on Lucayan Blue. Now a few weeks have gone by and we've purchased some palm trees, cedar for a 10' x 16' pergola and flagstone for our patio to match our coping. This all meant that the extra $800 for the River Rok finish became debatable. Weighing heavily on our minds was a plaster crew that hasn't done many River Rok pools. I've read that it's all in the application, so I don't think we can live with a rough surface due to inexperience. So now we're back leaning towards Diamond Brite Ocean Blue. (But I still havent seen 1 picture of Steel Blue or Bahama Breeze, which we also threw into the running.) And even with that, my PB has done a lot of DB pools, but never mixed colors. So we just might risk it. I refuse to get a white plaster pool! The plaster decision has been the absolute hardest! I really wish more people posted pictures of their pools with plaster color. Don't get me wrong, this board has been SO much help in figuring things out, but I could definitely use more examples. With that being said, as soon as ours is done I will happily post many pics of our pool for others to use as a reference....See MoreRiver Rok? Salt Water? Basic info?
Comments (1)All three will give you the longevity you seek with RR and DB giving you a few years more than a straight marcite finish. The only way RR makes sense is if you like the look and feel. If I had a gunite pool (mine is a liner pool) I would use DB over the other two for that exact reason. If I wanted a pebble type finish, it would be a PT or Wet Edge. These high aggregate finishes, with normal care, will outlast all others by a wide margin. The normal care for all of the above finishes is the same once the finish is cured past the first month. Keeping on top of pool's chems with a good test kit will help ensure you get the most out of it's life. Because the season is short for you, when you pull the trigger, time it for mid Spring, before the pollen season gets going or late May when the onslaught is done. This will give your finish the best opportunity to cure more fully without worrying about pollen stains setting on a fresh finish, the period where a finish is at its most vulnerable. Comments (4)Here is my pool, which is Baha Sand You will notice a few things. One, the color is different depending on the light (in fact, both these pictures show the water much greener then it is normally). The water color can be less green, but generally it is greener then we expected. Of course, a lot of how it turns out his how it is mixed (I don't think it is a straight color, so the apply can influence the color) and the surroundings (trees, etc)....See Morehawkfive
