Please help! Advice needed on flooring for covered deck/roof.

We have a long covered porch/balcony/deck that runs the entire length of the back of our house (Northern VA) on the second level. It is pretty much protected from rain/snow but sometimes the edges get wet. Directly underneath the deck is a slate patio that we use regularly. The floor of the second floor deck serves as a waterproof roof for the area below.

Here's the issue: the secondfloor deck used to be covered with all weather carpet which was really ugly. We tore it up and foolishly tore up a layer of thick waterproof paper/cardboard that was underneath it. Now we have just basic plywood exposed and are worried that it will get damaged by the elements and leak into the roof of the area below.

We have had a couple of contractors come over and have received conflicting advice: some recommended putting in T&G composite (which is what we would like) while others said that that would not provide protection for the roof below and that we should get roof decking like Deck Rite or Arid Dek instead. we would really prefer the T&G composite (Tendura) or wood (IPE?)with some kind of waterproof layer beneah to protect the roof but honestly don't know what to do now. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thank you.
