Vacuum cleaner for hardwood floors
Comments (13)Oooh! I've been trying to find a good hard floor vacuum for years and I've finally found one! I use the healthy home by bisell and you can turn off the rolling brush for hard floors so it doesn't scratch or kick around bigger pieces of dirt or small objects! It has nice big rubber wheels on it that won't scratch (especially pergo/laminate) floors. I had a home in Cali with dark walnut colored pergo flooring and my old vacuum ganged up with a little rock one day and made a long scratch right by the doorway. Not even furniture pens or polish was absorbed to hide it. Really sad when that happened. So I was determined never to vacuum a hardwood floor again after that. Until now. I love this vacuum and it has all the attachments with a hand held rotating brush handle (great for pet hair on furniture and the car-golden retrievers grow 10 new hairs for every 1 they shed). I'm also obsessed with having a clean vacuum so I can literally take apart the canister and wash it! After every use, I go out to the garage and vacuum my vacuum with the shopvac! It's a bit on the pricey side and it comes with some chemicals for dust mites and germs but I would never use or recommend using chemicals in the home or out. I do however, clean my carpets about every other month with an organic cleaner that kills germs and has a light scent. Carpet cleaners are full of very harmful chemicals and I have two asthmatics at home and a lovely dog(remember the hairy beast I mentioned?) So this works great. I love having a clean house. It's one of my favorite pastimes! That's my story and I'm sticking to it! JoAnn...See MoreVacuum Cleaners
Comments (42)I had the same question you did when I put in hard flooring. I needed to save money and get the most bang for my buck... I bought a HOOVER FLAIR Bagless Upright Stick Vacuum with Power Nozzle, S2220 (not the S2200) off Amazon.com and love, love, love, love, love, love, LOVE it! I'm IN LOVE with it! haha (I saw a quote on a review and I've adopted the phrase!) It's very reasonably priced ($45/free shipping), has great reviews, is bagless, great suction, very light (to me) and there's a switch that goes from hard floors to carpet/beater brush on that I use on my dining area rug. The cord length is great for MY use. It covers my kitchen, dining, foyer, hall, hall bath and laundry room! When I bought it I thought, for $45 I can try it and see how it works. If it doesn't I'll get a "better" one. It works though, so, YAY! I liked mine so much I bought one for my daughter-in-law. I got a text the other day that said: "I LOVE my birthday present!" We both used to SWEEP and I haven't swept now in months because it's great at sucking up the crumbs with no spreading it around in the air like a broom does. I DO clean the air filter (an old toothbrush works great) almost every time I use it just to preserve the machine & filter. It's amazing how much dirt/hair/debris it picks up. You can purchase new air filters but I haven't had to yet and have owned it for a good 6 months. I do not usually have big chunks of anything (like dog food) so can't comment on that. If I have something like that I pick it up first then get the rooms w/vac. Here's the Amazon link, hope it works: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00020BQGK Good luck...See MoreHardwood Floor vacuum recommendations
Comments (5)Have you had the service for the central vac out to look at it? If its performance is much worse than when it was new, there may be a clog somewhere or there may be a secondary filter in the main collecting area that needs to be changed a lot more often. https://builtinvacuum.com/flowchrt.html Canister vacs with a fresh filter/bag every couple of weeks (or every time you vacuum the whole house) work well on hardwood when you have a good floorbrush attachment. You may need to replace the HEPA filter quite often, too, like once a year. No recommendations on brands as the one I have (and friends have) closed a few years ago. I suggest going to a good local vacuum store to try out what they have. It's important to pick one that is comfortable to use, not clunky, or earsplittingly noisy, or with attachments that can't be changed without infuriation, or with a retractable cord that sticks every time it is used....See MoreHardwood floor attachment for Beam central vacuum
Comments (2)I have a dust mop vacuum attachment on my central vac. It looks like a dust mop but you attach it to the vacuum's wand. It dusts but there's an opening at the bottom that sucks up crumbs and hair that escapes the mop head. The mop portion peels off like velcro and can be thrown in the wash. I haven't done that either - I just suck all the hair off after every few uses. I think I got it online at Centralvacuumstores.com or something like that. You can probably find it on Amazon too....See MoreUser
