Deck-orated OR My Deck is (almost) Finished

We finished building the deck last year just in time for it to get cold. So we are really looking forward to using it this year. We went to a garden store, found a set of furniture I really thought was so comfortable. I found the cushions that it came with acceptable so we bought them. The next day I was on Craigslist (I told you I have been slightly obsessed lately with it) and I found a woman who was moving into a townhouse and she was selling her table, chairs and chaise lounges that matched the stuff we just bought. I got a great deal on the stuff she was selling. I am still waiting for the white cushions for the chaises to arrive, Hautelook is a bit slow with this order. But here is an overall picture of the whole deck. I'm not going to upload these to Photobucket (just so painfully slow, so I'll post a couple of different posts with the photos).

The furniture is all from Hanamint.

Thanks! - Where the ribbons went; we added extra 2x4 joist spans, lowered them to depth of a 2x8 and then laid the 2x8 down on top to make a flat support flush with everything else. We laid the ribbon right on that and secured with screws, and then had room on each side to secure the planks. - everything is Ipe, rails and 4x4's included. The rails are all 2x4's - with the balusters, we wanted to make sure that there would not be sag so we added the mid rails support (and b/c we have a child who may climb on them) They span about 7 feet and Ipe sayd you won't need them, I didn't mind the look and didn't want to find out... PS : we glued every board to the joists as well and the lattice is cedar Wardman

If you live in Nassau County, it is probably a little late to stain the ipe w/ TWP (I live in Westchester). I don't think there is any harm in letting the ipe age until the spring (it may turn a bit gray but nothing else). Then you can use the RAD system and stain. My advice on the RAD is to block off the deck after treatment and to not allow anyone to walk on it until stained (to prevent dirt from getting on it). I used it on my new mahogany deck and actually did the staining in my socks as I was very concerned about dirt and eventual mold forming.

Sherri, DH is worrying needlessly. Once the pool is filled everything will look TOTALLY different! Believe me. Our landscaper told us that, and it was absolutely true. If DH thinks it looks like too much, it is only an optical illusion. I love your decking! Ours is all concrete too, and there is even more of it than yours I believe. I really wanted the concrete to go all the way up to the pool edge like yours, but our PB said it was too late and we had to have coping. Anyway, once you add the landscaping, and any chairs, tables, grill, planters, etc. You will wonder where all the concrete got to, and it won't be as noticeable. But it is an awesome place to have parties and hang out. Also, I am SO glad we went w/ the concrete because where our pavers are, we cannot even walk barefoot on it without burning our feet! That is not a problem on the concrete! :) Here is how ours turned out (disregard any white pvc pipes you see... they were taken out after our final inspection). Good luck to you, and please post pics when it's complete! I am sure you (and DH) will love it when it's done! By the way, who is your PB? We are in PA too!

People so often miscalculate the necessary scale for a really comfortable, livable outdoor room. It looks wonderful.

Its perfect I love the blues and the table candles couldn,t be more perfect. I,m going to keep my eyes open for something like that for my table.

Stunning! I love the colors and the furniture design. I don't leave candles outside anymore though - last summer my candles in lanterns melted in the heat and made a huge mess of the lanterns and table!

I never heard of fire glass, is this better or nicer or cleaner than the lava rocks?

I do not have a fire table but would like to get one.

Any suggestions?

thanks again. Today was nice out and we did get a chance to sit out there without freezing. Then my dh had to get to the airport so the sun worshipping ended.

lyban, we bought that firetable from Lowe's. The patio store sells them too, however they sell theirs for over $2k and there was no way I could ever justify that. This was around $300 or so. We took the lava rocks out and replaced with the fire glass. It looks soooo much better. Has a nice sparkle to it when it's lit. The lava rocks were just dead darkness. We ordered the fireglass from Amazon after picking out the colors in person at the patio store....again, they wanted $15/lb. We bought for around $5/lb. Big difference considering we bought 30lbs of it.

b's mom--oh, a g&t would be lovely. What time will you get here? And yes, the deck is large. (I actually wanted it to go out further but you just gotta stop spending somewhere, right? It's 34' long.

tinan, yes, I'm already thinking about the candles and melting issue....probably have to go with battery candles. I just love the blue though.
