AMEN!! Stacy

You got it, girl! Right on the mark LOL.

Ahhhhhhh..... the good old days!

How I miss those manners! We had to say the pledge of allegiance every day, too! AND we had a school song which we had to memorize and sing at assemblies. It's wasn't too hard for me because my mother went to the same school and she would sing it sometimes, too!

and in Canada too!

remember too,we had roller skates, the strap ons to pass the time and ruin(fall down on and scrape) the knees, jump rope, double dutch, and elastics to jump...god forbid,we didnt need "extra" phys ed to stay fit,all we wanted to do was outdoor activites to have fun!

We all said the Lords prayer...was there any other?

We all sang God Save the Queen.

We played hide and seek, tag and baseball...no one ever really got "hurt" and if you did, well, here it was iodine..*S*S*

Oh and yes,the raw burger, and breakfast sausage too....yummo!

And yes,the beaches, believe it or not, even old Lake Ontario, when it was actually something other than brown.
Now,we have to "save" the ducks, the geese and all the other "natural" things crapping in the water by the thousands...and some wonder where all this "bacteria" comes from....no one these days eats duck or goose I guess...lol

Ahh yes Kathi,I enjoyed this piece immensely..thank you for sharing

Ya Ya (another one who got her "butt spanked"! LOL)

I remember being so afraid of the theme song
to Perry Mason ! To this day I get a chill !
Olgaflowers,

Oh, what memories!!!!!!!!!! I just turned 60 and I can say those were the days.. Sadly no one takes responsibilty for their actions these days. This is a "huge" problem. We raised our 3 kids like we were raised. They also are doing the same with their kids. Great bunch!!!!

We lived on the edge of town. No buses, we walked to and home from school. No early outs because it looked bad or it snowed one inch. no mittens, no warm long snow pants. Just thin rubber boots if you were lucky. Had dress codes, girls wore skirts, no pants, boy wore belts w/shirts tucked in, hair combed.
We wore socks on our hands for mittens and then when we got to school those on our feet so our socks could dry. Its no wonder kids have a hard time now. They aren't able to think " how could we do this."
We also raised our kids like we were raised, but with mittens , and winter wear. They hated it, but isn't that part of being a kid? They raised their children like they were raised and all have college offers and are great kids.
I really feel sorry for the kids of todays world, in some ways they are missing a lot. (now I wonder if we were poor, but everyone in town lived like that)

It wasn't all peaches and cream.
Child abuse wasn't unheard of...just kept hidden for the most part...the same with dysfunctional families.
Teenage pregnancies peaked in the 50's and 60's and have
declined ever since.
The high school drop-out rate was higher.
Then there was segregation, institutioalized racism and almost no women's rights.
No tolerance of homosexuality.
Southern lynchings.
Medical advances since the 50's have improved our quality of life.(remember Polio and Smallpox?)

Our personal lives may have been better but looking at the big picture i'll take 2008 over the 50's and 60's any day.

This is funny. I just used mercurochrome on my DD's scraped up knee. I ended up taking her to the MD because I thought it might have been infected. When she looked at it, she said, "Why is it red?" I told her it was from the mercurochrome. She had no idea what it was!

Thanks for the memories, Kathi. I remember all those things & miss a lot of stuff from my childhood. I lived a long way from school, both grammar & high school, and no one was at home to drive me. We had lots of snow in Chicago & my school was never, ever closed. We had to wear pants under our skirts or dresses when it was cold out & then take them off when we got to school. Actually, even in the business offices where I worked after graduation, we were never allowed to wear pants to work, even pants suits. Now I'm just the opposite & never wear a dress to work. :-)

Thanks for the memories. The theme song from Dragnet scared me to death.

Have your sound on..you'll enjoy this

That's a great link!

I was born in 1962, so I remember more of the 70s than 60s.

The other day I forgot to put an ice pack in my lunch and I had tuna in my salad. I was so scared to eat it! (I did and didn't get sick.) I remembered how as a kid we NEVER had ice packs (did they even exist?) and we had sandwiches with mayo and even milk. We never got sick from it. (Not that I enjoyed warm milk!)
