Advise on Screen-in Porch flooring

First, thanks for all who post and comment on this site. I have found it to be an invaluable resource during our construction process. We are building a screened in porch on our new construction home and are considering either T&G IPE or quartzite tiles as the floor. Does anyone have experience with either surface for a porch floor? Are there drainage issues with either surface? What about ventalation? The porch is on a 4' foundation wall that is not open on any side. Are there any other good options. We would like something that looks finished.

Tile on a deck exposed to the weather would require a lot of well thought out planing, including a cret slab base. I have used T&G ipe with good results. John

We are also planning a screened-in porch on our new house and were initially considering using stone or tile on the floor. John, from your reply, and after some discussions with others, it sounds like we would need to pour a slab first? Are there any other options for stone/tile. If we have to pour a slab I think we will just go w IPE or some other durable wood as the porch will be elevated, above a walkout basement.

Did he use a moisture barrier under his concrete when he poured it? That might be the key here to a successful concrete floor for your application.

Yeah I think the rectangular might be a better option. I’m having to replace the wicker table and chairs because they are breaking apart…I really have enjoyed for 20 years but are not repairable. Thanks!!

It's decking...leave it as is and get an indoor/outdoor rug that you can roll up when the season is over. cb2/

Composite flooring for screened porch and steps.

If you currently have a painted tongue and groove porch floor it probably isnt built with treated lumber- most composite decking materials are designed to allow water to flow through. Even the tongue and groove options aren’t waterproof. Additionally composite products require very close joist spacing (typically 12”) since the material has no rigidity. Finally many of the composite materials are slippery when wet- I suggest spending extra for a material like timber tech aged hickory. It has a brushed finish that is very slip resistant. Good luck!
