Should have been working in the yard these past months, but with DDs help, did the front border prep yesterday. This afternoon we will run to the nursery for more begonias and allysum and put that in the ground.

The back yard is the real challenge. I have ignored those borders for a year!

Sheilajoyce, do you have any hints about allysum? I tried once and didn't have much luck. Are they sun plants or shade? I think they're so dainty and pretty. I tend to shy away from anything I've had bad luck with, but I think I'd like to try them again.

I wish. I've looked around and things are poking through. My fern leaf peonies are up a little, and my iris, tulips and lilies are coming through too. Got buds on my magnolia tree, so I hope we don't get a freeze. But it's still to cold to putz in the yard yet, for me.

Yup, shoveling the 8-10 inches of snow we got Sunday-Monday, LOL. Is this winter EVER going to be over? Some places north of us got 24-32 inches. Depressing. Last year at one point in March, we had 81F. Not this year. Very little sun. Spring will be so very welcome when it finally gets here.

I bought 10 tons of sand almost two weeks ago. It was dumped in the front yard. It rained that day and almost every day since then. A couple of days ago the weather was nice outside. I started carting sand to the backyard to fill some holes the dogs dug ( really big holes ) and to level a spot in the yard. From the looks of the pile in the front yard I've only used about a ton so far. I went to Lowe's yesterday and bought 30 bags of mulch they have on sale. I need to go back again today, but I'm so stiff and sore from that sand work I just don't want to. I'll force myself to this evening. I prefer bags instead of bulk mulch because the bulk tends to have a lot of built in weeds. I planted a rose bush the day before all the rain started and I also dug up a large bush and replaced it with one that won't get big. I've weeded the front flower beds and in a few minutes I've got to go out there and trim a vine that is out of control. I also planted an iris Grammahony sent to me. I don't know if it will bloom this year or not, but I'm loooking forward to seeing it whenever it makes a grand entrance.

I found some elephant ear bulbs dug up and destroyed a few weeks ago. I hope there are some others that survived Luther. I have the flower bed fenced off now where the dogs cannot get to the flowers or the bird feeders.

I have so much work to do. At least this year I am retired and actually have time to get out there and work. I'm going to enjoy the heck out of that.

Yep. We have made some progress, but still a ways to go. We have spread most of the compost and refreshed the soil in 75% of the beds. We still have clean out to do in about a quarter of the beds and then we will finish mulching.
I love a freshly mulched bed!
The veggies and herbs have been in for about 2 weeks.

Yeah...I'm working alright. Working up the energy. *Sigh*

Been at it for a couple of months already.

Have had dirty fingernails,for weeks now.Both DH and i have been weedin'seedin' planting,mulching and everything else that goes with gardening.

Today i planted more seeds,made more plant tags.Last week i totally demolished one of my gardens,dug out everything that was in it,transplanted some,trashed some,gave some away.Then i roto tilled it and amended the soil,and the seeds i planted today will go in there.

Of course i'm in S.Calif so we have a head start on the rest of you.

Actually, in So. CA it never stops! I've been doing some weeding, slug bait, planted a few annuals, nothing major. I hope to move a couple of rose bushes and mulch heavily to keep the weeds down.

Vannie, alyssum is very easy. It's a sun plant. The most economical way is with seed, but the nursery plants work fine also and give you immediate results.

Now they're predicting possible snow for Thursday and Friday. Geesh, will Spring ever come. I'm really bummed now.

Are you kidding.
Half my lawn is bare but it has snowed two or three inches every day for the past week. A week ago Monday I got stranded for another during my meal deliveries waiting for a blizzard to blow through.

I've been very very patient this year but it's running thin!

Last week there was a large pile of snow over 6' deep out in front of the kitchen where the landlord had pushed the snow from the yard ... and the last melted on Sunday.

There are a few blades of grass peeking through ... and, when I walked around the yard today (the first nice day we've had) I saw a few buds of daffodils beginning to push up.

It's to rain tomorrow.

Yes...I finally found time to get out and get alot done. It was long over due for this area. I have a smile on my face and it is looking wonderful again! I even mowed the lawn. Not trying to rub it in to those still having winter, just responding to the question :)

Yep, put in my flowers, shrubs and my garden.

Already been outside a few times weeding my newest flower bed and planning what new flowers I'll add to it. DH trimming trees, upgrading some edging and I took out another HUGE everygreen bush these past two weekends and need to start thinking of what to plant there. Probably early spring flowers as it gets lots of sun in spring but is pretty shady area throughout the summer.
Haven't even thought about the back yard yet. That's a project I'm not looking forward to!

not yet...i'm really anxious to get out there and dig in the dirt!! I don't know how much cooperation I'm gonna get with my right arm...but I figure I can plant with one arm if I have to!

Nope, condo association takes care of that. Right now I have in my front yard, bundles of pine straw that will be throw around tomorrow and rest of week. Sure will make the place look nicer.

Spent the past two days painting fences...too early to do planting here yet,but crocuses are in bloom and green "things" are poking through my perennial border all over the place!

I've been trying to get my yard in shape for a couple of months. It's starting to get hot down here so I want to get things in shape before then. I've been putting down some fresh mulch but ran out and will be doing that again this weekend. I love love love working in the yard. Here are a few new plants I started this year:

We had 3 sunny, dry days with temps in the upper 60's, so yes, we have been out there trying to get up all the debris that the weather didn't allow us to do last fall. I actually was able to get down 'n' dirty yesterday. Divided a couple salvias and dh got the grasses cut back. The birds are having a hay day gathering up the bits and pieces for nesting. A few Tulips are open now and the Amelancher buds are plump. Life is good!
